People who are familiar with Hong Kong pop music should be more familiar with the name Liang Qiaobai. In the 1990s, he was responsible for the production of records and concerts by singers such as Faye Wong, Eason Chan, Joey Yung, and Lu Qiaoyin, as well as the all-round production of singers such as lyrics, composition and arrangement. But before that, the 1980s, it should be considered a pre-stage period in Liang Qiaobai's music career that was not long but very missed. At that time, he was really a pioneer boy who played rock and roll movies.
Liang Qiaobai, who was in middle school, had already started playing bands with his friends. Out of a common love for David Bowie, he and Wong Ka-kui, who was not famous at the time, hit it off at first sight and became a musical confidant. In the early 1980s, their common idol, David Bowie's gorgeous rock style has gradually begun to be accepted in the UK on the other side of the ocean. In the Hong Kong music scene, where information is relatively limited, it still belongs to a "niche flavor". Liang Qiaobai and Huang Jiaju have similar preferences. 1984, Liang Qiaobai and his friends Ronnie and Rick formed the Life Exhibition band. Similar to other Hong Kong bands, they covered some famous songs and sang some English songs. The next year, only Liang Qiaobai was left. Because I didn’t have many formed works when playing underground, I didn’t have much video materials left in the early days.
After that, Liang Qiaobai immediately found a five-person band Liu Zhiyuan, Mai Zhendong, Cen Dewei and Wu Wei'an, and took a Chinese name "Ukiyo-e", played artistic rock, and filled these Western-style works into Chinese lyrics. At that time, this was almost equivalent to blocking one's own way out in the Hong Kong music scene, but Liang Qiaobai found that writing Chinese songs was also very meaningful, insisting on "going ahead" and creating the first Chinese song "Sad City" under pressure.Influenced by the market environment, of course it is not difficult to foresee that this song will definitely be mediocre, but the band still insists on creating the second pure Chinese song "Dance Girl" and sang these two songs on many occasions. By chance, a person from an independent brand IC Records in Hong Kong saw the performance of Ukiyoe and was attracted by its poignant alternative style, so the band's first EP of the same name came out, including a song "Dance Girl" and three different versions of "Sad City". It is not difficult to see the band's exploration and attempts of avant-garde artistic music by using many electronic arrangements.

In the same year, shortly after the EP was released, the band announced the disband because Liang Qiaobai and his family immigrated to the United States. The 23-year-old Liang Qiaobai left Hong Kong in this year to study in New York, majoring in bachelor's and master's degrees in film studies until they returned to Hong Kong in 1989. During this period, Liu Zhiyuan, another core member of Ukiyoe, was not idle either. He went to Beyond to be a guitar and keyboard player. This was the period when Beyond had the most members.

1989, Liang Qiaobai graduated and returned to Hong Kong, found Liu Zhiyuan to reorganize Ukiyoe, and released the album "The Boy Who Loves Flowers" in the name of Ukiyoe, and won the silver medal in the group of the leading music industry that year.

"The Boy Who Loves Flowers" may be the most famous in Ukiyoe's creative career, but in the 1980s and 1990s, this album with a strong experimental flavor can be regarded as a very unpopular work in that era, so there was a polar phenomenon that was neglected by the local music scene on one side, but on the other side, it was loved by the musicians. "The Moon Full of Starry Night" in the album is still the favorite of many radio DJs and is regarded as a Hong Kong-style classic in the 1990s.
1990, the second year after Liang Qiaobo returned to Hong Kong from New York, Ukiyoe announced his disbandment after releasing the album "Do you know" at the beginning of the year. Liang Qiaobo's focus gradually shifted from the front stage to the backstage. Although he could occasionally hear the news that he played in a band and released his works, it was rare.

Ten years later, Liang Qiaobai, Chen Shoupu and Gordon O' Yang formed the Plastic Knowledge Society. There was no movement, and no public works were released.
In 2002, 12 years after the last "Knowing or Not", Liang Qiaobai finally released the album "Remembering the Years Like Water", this time he was entirely responsible for lyrics, singing, arrangement, production, photography and even album design. "Liang Qiaobo did not deliberately pursue novelty or breakthroughs, had no sense of mission, nor did he get angry at the world and the world, everything was as he wanted." Compared to the young and vigorous playfulness of the Ukiyo-e period, this album is more about Liang Qiaobo's behind the scenes for many years, playing so many singers, and when playing himself, everything became easier and casual.
