Kaohsiung City, one of the five major municipalities in Taiwan, is located in the southwest of Taiwan’s island. It was established on December 25, 2010 and merged from the existing Kaohsiung City and Kaohsiung County, Taiwan Province. After the merger, the area reaches 2,947 square kilometers, making it the largest municipality in Taiwan currently; the population reaches 2.78 million, and it is also the second largest municipality in Taiwan. In 2012, Kaohsiung City achieved a GDP of 368.86 billion yuan (RMB), ranking third among all cities and counties in Taiwan. Since the opening of the port in the late 19th century, Kaohsiung has developed into a port city and a military location during the Japanese rule period. After the mid-20th century, it became a political, economic and transportation center in southern Taiwan and formed a Kaohsiung metropolitan area with some Pingtung counties. The jurisdiction of Kaohsiung City is northeast to the Central Mountains and the main peak of Yushan, and southwest to Taiping Island, Zhongzhou Island, and Dongsha Islands in the South China Sea. It is adjacent to Tainan City, Chiayi County, Nantou County, Hualien County, Taitung County, Pingtung County and other counties and cities in a clockwise direction.
It is a must to eat a bowl of "Sea Ice" of the big bowl of ice in Kaohsiung. That ice is the best in Kaohsiung and is cheap. It is at the Sancha intersection of an inconspicuous alley in Gushan District. Take the subway to get off at Xiziwan Station, No. 76, Binhai 1st Road. Although this place is not easy to find, it is very famous in that area and will never miss it. The tables on the walls were filled with graffiti and signatures from guests. The ice light can tempt you by looking at the color.
Of course, going to Gushan District is not all about eating ice, there is one thing to do. It was just a boat to the Qijin Peninsula to see the lighthouse. The Qijin Lighthouse should be regarded as the happiest lighthouse in Taiwan. It has been erected on the mountain behind the flag for more than a hundred years, far away from the British Consulate of Beating Dog. It enjoys the beautiful scenery of Xizi Bay every day and is the best place to enjoy the Kaohsiung Port View.
From Gushan Ferry Station, take a boat to Qijin

Walk along Tongshan Road for 15 minutes, turn into the alley under the banner and to the bottom of the alley, you can see a huge colorful icon, which identifies the direction of the fort and the lighthouse behind the flag.

According to reports: In 1895, the Black Flag Army under the jurisdiction of Liu Chengliang, the adopted son of the Taiwan-Japanese War defender, had a fierce artillery battle with the Japanese ship here. The Japanese ship Yoshino was shelled before landing, destroying the lintel of the fort, "Shocking the South". The two sides fought until the evening, and the Japanese army successfully landed through the defense line. The defenders behind the flag were abandoned, and Liu led his army to retreat to Tainan, and the Japanese army then occupied and beat dogs.
Kaohsiung is excellent from the location of the fort.
In the ninth year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, the Kaohsiung Branch of the Taiwan Pass hired a British man Harding to design a Western-style lighthouse on the top of the mountain behind the flag. The lighthouse we are seeing is now rebuilt in 1917. Built an octagonal shape for bricks, with a tower height of 15.2 meters. The wind direction meter at the top of the lighthouse has four Chinese characters: east, south, west and north, which are unique in the history of lighthouse architecture. It is the only brick tower with an octagonal structure on the island. It is said that during the Qing Dynasty, four lighthouses were built in Taiwan, namely the Kenting Eluanbi Lighthouse, the Qijin Lighthouse, the Tamsui Port Lighthouse and the Anping Lighthouse.
Walking down from the lighthouse is a street in Qijin. There is a Tianhou Temple on the street, which is also a ruin from the Qing Dynasty, and the incense is very prosperous.
After crossing this collapsed bridge, we climbed the mountain to see the famous dog-beating consulate. Kaohsiung was originally called "beating dogs", which may be pronounced in Minnan, but was only renamed Kaohsiung in 1919.
