It brings more than 100 works related to water and will be exhibited here until June 5.
The entire exhibition is divided into five parts: water landscape manufacturing, water daily life, liquid imagination, sacred territory, and water geographical transition. The exhibits include fish baskets from the 19th century, Sapotk urns from 300-900 AD, beast-shaped sculptures from the Inuit people in Greenland, green jade necklaces, the treasure of Maori in New Zealand, and aquatic animal masks made by the Ijo people in southern Nigeria, symbolizing kindness and happiness... One by one, precious cultural relics and works unveil the mystery of the Aztec civilization in the Americas hundreds of years ago, and decipher the water riddles of the 19th century world.
The exhibition is so rich that it is inseparable from the rich collection foundation of the French Cabrunley Museum. According to reports, the Cabrunley Museum is located on the banks of the Seine and is one of the most visited museums in France. The museum protects and records 300,000 collections from Africa, Asia, Oceania and America. In addition to some of the exhibits previously exhibited at the Shanghai Museum, this is the second time that the CBLNL Museum has joined hands with Shanghai's cultural venue.
Li Minkun, chairman of Shanghai Pudong Art Museum Business Management Co., Ltd., told reporters that for such an exhibition, the two sides have started preparations since 2019 and have overcome many difficulties in the process. For example, the transportation and exhibition of exhibits under the epidemic. "Especially for some of the cultural relics with thousands of years of history, when there was no way to send a special person to Shanghai to show, the Cabrunley Museum transported the exhibits with great confidence and authorized us to hire a team of professional companies to build the exhibition, which made it the effect that has been presented today." After the exhibition of "The Domain of Water", the Cabrunley Museum expressed its gratitude and willingness to cooperate with the Pudong Art Museum. Consul General of the French Consulate General in Shanghai Benoît GUIDÉE also said that this cooperation is the result of the joint efforts of the cultural industries of the two countries. "It is very meaningful and the exhibition content is very moving."
Pudong Art Museum has no closed day throughout the year and its business hours are until 9 pm. In addition, the art gallery is built in accordance with international first-class standards, with a total of 13 fixed exhibition halls and open exhibition halls, with an exhibition area of more than 10,000 square meters and can accommodate three to four large exhibitions at the same time. It has 6 warehouses that can accommodate exhibits of different sizes, and is equipped with a 24-hour centrally integrated constant temperature and humidity system in the entire hall to ensure that it meets the needs of multiple specifications and high-quality exhibits. Since its opening, it has received praise and cooperation intentions from many top international art institutions.
At the opening exhibition of the Pudong Art Museum last year, the Tate Art Museum in London, England took out more than 100 precious collections, many of which were the first time they came out of "Tate". "Tate is very satisfied with our exhibition layout and the facilities in the museum. In addition, our meticulous management, we will conduct statistics and report the temperature and humidity conditions of each exhibit during the exhibition. When the exhibition is over and all the exhibits are shipped back to the UK, Tate told me: 'No exhibit is damaged'. This is almost the best time for exhibits to be preserved in previous exhibitions. After that cooperation, we signed a cooperation memorandum with Tate Art Museum, and the other party plans to hold an exhibition at the Pudong Art Museum every year in the next five years." Li Minkun said.
