On October 14-15, 2021, the plenary meeting of the teaching steering committee of the Ministry of Education’s colleges and universities and the National Joint Meeting of Sociology Majors Heads of Teaching Units of Sociology Majors was held at Suzhou University. A total of 220 representatives attended the meeting, including members of the Education Commission and heads of sociology majors across the country. The
conference is sponsored by the Ministry of Education’s teaching guidance committee for the teaching of sociology majors in higher education institutions and hosted by the School of Social Sciences of Suzhou University. It has set up six sub-forums to carry out in-depth targeted work exchanges and discussions around the six themes of “Construction of first-class majors in new liberal arts and sociology, ideological and political construction of courses in sociology majors, first-class course construction, practical teaching reform, student employment ability, and student professional identity”. Associate Professor Zhang Ruiling of the Department of Social Work was invited to participate and exchange speeches at the sub-forum on practical teaching of sociology majors.
This conference discussed the new opportunities and challenges facing the development of the discipline of sociology in the context of the new era, contributed the experience and ideas of the professional construction of sociology, demonstrated the high degree of discipline awareness of Chinese sociology scholars, and also demonstrated the historical mission and responsibility of sociology scholars.
