Wu Zhiyong, 59 years old this year, is a forest ranger at Sandaogou Forest Farm in Yunwu Mountain Forest Farm in Fengning Manchu Autonomous County. For 11 years, he has patrolled alone in the forest almost every day. Although he is only 6 kilometers away from home, for this green area, he only goes home for more than ten days every year. It is precisely because of this ordinary and persistent persistence that not long ago, he was jointly awarded the title of "National Greening Worker Model" by the State Forestry Administration, the National Greening Committee, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
1 Come and come all for this green forest
2005, the Civil Affairs Bureau, Yunwu Mountain Forest Farm and a company jointly developed a cemetery in Sandaogou, 3 kilometers away from the county town. The families of the deceased often come to pay tribute to the deceased when no one is on duty in the cemetery, which has become a major fire prevention risk in the forest area. Since the cemetery is in the wilderness, choosing a forest ranger who can be on duty here day and night has become a problem. Just when everyone was at a loss, Wu Zhiyong recommended himself to come to the mountain.
Wu Zhiyong is a veteran figure in the forest farm. His father was once an old leader of the forest farm. Influenced by his father's beloved Lin Hulin, four of Wu Zhiyong's five brothers and sisters became forest workers. Wu Zhiyong has also served as the mayor of Yinglin District, nursery director, and forest farm director. In 1999, the forest farm was reorganized, and some employees needed to leave their posts and find another job. As the deputy director, he looked at this and that. He always felt that it was not easy for anyone, so he finally chose to leave by himself.
In the next six years, Wu Zhiyong ran through transportation and sold coolies. Finally, he was hired as a forestry engineer in Huairou, Beijing with a monthly salary of 6,000 yuan. "Where I'm outside, I feel uneasy. In my dreams, I always return to the forest farm where I used to work." Wu Zhiyong said, "When I heard that no one in the yard would like to visit the cemetery to protect the forest, I came back."
There is a bungalow under a shady slope in the cemetery. This is where Wu Zhiyong works and lives. "There is no water or electricity here. It's okay during the day, but it's really creepy at night. I can only take a short nap at noon every day. Over half a year, I have lost more than 30 kilograms." Wu Zhiyong still remembers the days he first returned to the forest farm.
Wu Zhiyong said that forest protection work is very hard. First, the responsibility is great, with a patrol area of 4,102 mu. Since there are cemeteries built in the forest area and people often come to visit the graves, they cannot do without people. Second, it is hard to bear loneliness. Every day it gets dark, it is accompanied by the night, and there are only radios that are intermittent in signals. The third is that I can’t take care of my home. Although I’m only 6 miles away from home, I really don’t have time to go back. I go back occasionally and have to come back quickly after finishing my homework.
Wu Zhiyong's wife Chen Shufang said that even on New Year's Eve, Wu Zhiyong often lives on the mountain. Once she got angry and removed the bed where Lao Wu was sleeping. However, in 11 years, Lao Wu has only been living home for more than ten days every year.
2 423 graves in my heart tribute timetable
On May 14, 2010, after breakfast, Lao Wu went out patrolling the mountain as usual. That afternoon, just as he was about to return to his residence, his phone rang a rapid ringtone. Old Wu answered the phone and his 13-year-old daughter had already cried on the other end of the phone.
It turned out that his wife had a sudden heart attack at 9 o'clock that day. Her daughter called his cell phone over and over again, but because there was no signal in the mountains, it was not connected. This time, Old Wu asked for leave from the venue for the first time and stayed with his wife in the hospital for a week. This is the longest time the couple has been together in 11 years.
Chen Shufang repeatedly persuaded Lao Wu to ask for a change of job, but Wu Zhiyong only said one thing: "I don't do it, who will do it? This is my own choice."
A simple house, a secluded life, a mountain road of more than ten kilometers and a forest farm every day, and he leans on a stick every time he patrols the mountain, and he walks for more than three hours. This is his work and life for 11 years.
The climate in the mountains, even if it does not rain, the shady rooms and quilts are always wet, so Wu Zhiyong suffered from rheumatoid arthritis.
There is a dry well more than 100 meters away from Lao Wu's residence. In summer, he eats the water seeping out of the well, but for more time, because there is no water in the well, he can only ride a motorcycle to the nearby village to get water.
After years of patrolling the mountain and observing the fire, Wu Zhiyong has accumulated rich forest protection experience. There are 423 tombs in the cemetery. He registered and compiled them one by one. He remembered clearly which tomb belongs to whom and when their family members would come to pay tribute. Whenever the family of the deceased wants to pay tribute to the open fire, he will always persuade him with great sincerity.
3 Going through hardships for that green
In the eyes of colleagues, Wu Zhiyong is like an alarm clock with full force, working tirelessly. "He is a person who is particularly capable of enduring hardships, dedication, thoughtfulness, and can do everything at critical moments." This is the evaluation of Wu Zhiyong by a colleague from the forest farm.
In the summer vacation of 1995, Wu Zhiyong was appointed as the deputy director of Yunwu Mountain Forest Farm, in charge of the production and sales of timber cutting and cutting. My son, who had just graduated from elementary school and was unattended at home, was taken by Wu Zhiyong all day long. Seeing this situation, the director made an exception and criticized Wu Zhiyong for 10 days off, so he could take a break and spend time with his children. But the scene was so busy that Old Wu gave up his vacation and entrusted his child to his colleagues who went to Tianjin to deliver goods. Unexpectedly, when they returned from Tianjin and washed their faces by a river along the way, the child accidentally drowned. The misfortune of the child caused Lao Wu's family to suffer a heavy blow. Two years later, Lao Wu's wife was overly mourning and could not recover from her long illness, and eventually became mentally ill.
Since Lao Wu cannot go home for many years, his half-crazy wife can only rely on her young daughter for life. Coupled with his wife's high medical expenses, the originally poor family lives even more difficult. Seeing that his brother's family was having a difficult time, he took on the responsibility of supporting his old mother suffering from hypertension and coronary heart disease. Wu Zhiyong was heartbroken about this and wrote in his diary: "I know how far I am from home, I know that my life is very boring, I know that I take less care of my family, but as a forest ranger, I know that the burden on my shoulders is heavy and my work is so important."
Because the cemetery is in a forest area, the fire prevention task is large, and full-time forest rangers are required, and the forest farm is not good, so after negotiation, Lao Wu's salary is paid by the cemetery operator. Due to the sales problems of the cemetery, Lao Wu had never received a salary in the past five years, and his daily expenses were borrowed from the east to the west. In April 2011, the Fengning Civil Affairs Bureau decided to take back the ownership of the cemetery, and Lao Wu's salary was paid in one lump sum. When Lao Wu handed over the remaining 8,000 yuan to his wife after paying off his debts for several years, his wife cried with joy...
4 " Guan Er Ge " in everyone's eyes
Although he lived a relatively poor life, people who knew Wu Zhiyong called him "Guan Er Ge", because no matter who has a hurdle that cannot be overcome, Lao Wu will always do his best to help.
There is an old man surnamed Zhao in Yangmagou Village, Dengzhazi, who is lonely and poor. After Old Wu found out, he put the old man in his heart. Every time he passes by Yangmagou Village, he always goes to the elderly’s house to take a look, send some old clothes from his home, stuff some pocket money to help the elderly.
There is also an old man named Hu Lianting, who was a friend Wu Zhiyong met when he was protecting the forest. In the autumn of 2004, Hu Lianting's son was in a car accident and his family was in trouble. After Wu Zhiyong learned about it, he gave his only 3,000 yuan to Hu Lianting, solving the old man's family's urgent needs. Not long after, Hu Lianting's son suffered from lipoma again and lost his ability to work. Now, Hu Lianting's son has passed away. Wu Zhiyong goes to visit the elderly every year and gives him help from 1,500 to 2,000 yuan. "My daughter just got admitted to university this year. When she was about to go to school, the couple went to Lao Hu's house and gave him some rice, flour and oil."
Now, Wu Zhiyong is 59 years old. Considering his family's situation, the forest farm wants to take care of him many times and arrange a more relaxed job for him. But Wu Zhiyong insisted on staying on the mountain, and he was reluctant to leave the familiar forest. "In the past, when my daughter was at home, she could help me take care of my wife. Now that my daughter is in college, my wife really can't live alone at home."Old Wu said that he didn't want to go home every day, "If I leave, who will come to take care of this woodland?" It is difficult to find someone to take over. "
However, what made Wu Zhiyong happy is that although he had very little home in recent years, his daughter remembered all his efforts.
