Unlike previous years' "Han Guang" exercises, Taiwan's defense department focused on the Russian-Ukrainian military conflict that broke out on February 24. Regarding this year's "Han Guang" exercise, Zhao Chunshan, the think tank of former Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou, commented that it was completely doing "useless work". Attending a forum, he said that since the Taiwan authorities want to refer to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict to deal with the possible outbreak of the Taiwan Strait war in the future, the Taiwan authorities should learn and understand the causes and subsequent developments of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. He believes that if there is conflict in the Taiwan Strait, there will be no protracted war. The implication is that the authorities cannot resist the offensive operation launched by the People's Liberation Army. Zhao Chunshan pointed out that many people on the island put their hopes on the United States, but they have also seen the result of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The United States did not send troops to help, nor did it give Ukraine strong support. In the end, Ukraine became the "agent" of the United States and Western countries and broke out with military conflicts with Russia. Therefore, Taiwan should understand that it must not follow Ukraine's footsteps.
