In recent years, due to the continuous provocation of external interference forces and the "Taiwan independence" elements on the island, the situation in the Taiwan Strait has always been in an increasingly tense situation, and cross-strait relations have also deteriorated. In order to "resist the unification with force" and "rely rely on foreign countries to seek independence", the DPP authorities have continuously improved the combat power level of Taiwan. According to Taiwan media reports on July 25, Taiwan’s largest annual exercise “Hanguang 38” and some live-fire exercises were officially held on the same day. The military exercise will last until July 29. The main "imaginary enemy" of this military exercise is the People’s Liberation Army.
From the information released by the Taiwan defense department, it can be found that the key exercise subjects of this military exercise are still "asymmetric" combat methods, that is, abandoning a certain amount of 's air superiority and sea superiority , and relying on the shore-based anti-ship missile system and defense fortifications to intercept. Through rapid transfer and professional cover, the combat strength of Taiwan’s military forces can be preserved to the maximum extent so that they can deal with the People’s Liberation Army for a long time. The DPP authorities hope that once the PLA "restrains Taiwan by force", Taiwan can last at least 30 days until the intervention of external interference forces such as the United States.
Unlike previous years' "Han Guang" exercises, Taiwan's defense department focused on the Russian-Ukrainian military conflict that broke out on February 24. In their opinion, the core factor of the Ukrainian government forces can still firmly block the Russian offensive operations while their troops and equipment are at a disadvantage. Under the request of US military instructors, the defenders in the eastern Ukraine region built many NATO fortifications, which became an important factor in the long-term battle between the Ukraine and the Russian army. During this exercise, the Taiwan authorities followed the Ukrainian army's defense methods in some key landing areas, dug trench systems between the beach banks, deployed a lot of anti-tank firepower, and stored weapons, ammunition and other supplies for 30 days. It was clearly intended to have a "protracted war on the beach" with the People's Liberation Army.
Regarding this year's "Han Guang" exercise, Zhao Chunshan, the think tank of former Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou, commented that it was completely doing "useless work". Attending a forum, he said that since the Taiwan authorities want to refer to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict to deal with the possible outbreak of the Taiwan Strait war in the future, the Taiwan authorities should learn and understand the causes and subsequent developments of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. He believes that if there is conflict in the Taiwan Strait, there will be no protracted war. The implication is that the authorities cannot resist the offensive operation launched by the People's Liberation Army. Zhao Chunshan pointed out that many people on the island put their hopes on the United States, but they have also seen the result of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The United States did not send troops to help, nor did it give Ukraine strong support. In the end, Ukraine became the "agent" of the United States and Western countries and broke out with military conflicts with Russia. Therefore, Taiwan should understand that it must not follow Ukraine's footsteps.
The outside world has also seen the situation in Ukraine at this stage, and it is because there is no way to go to the earth. Not only is the current war burning more and more vigorously, but the safety of life and property in the future is not guaranteed, because Ukraine's hope of joining NATO and EU is still very slim. Regarding the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Taiwan’s most popular saying: Ukraine today, Taiwan tomorrow. From the perspective of war disasters, the provocations of the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan have brought only tragic fate to compatriots on the island.
