According to a report by Nikkei Asia Review on August 25, TSMC's plan to produce 8 million Kirin 9000 chips for Huawei with 5nm can basically be achieved, which is its huge effort to produce the A14 processor for Apple with all its efforts to use this process. In addition, TSMC is also making every effort to produce other chips for Huawei using 7nm and 10nm processes to meet the chip demand of Huawei base stations, mobile phones and other products.
It is also reported that Huawei will hold a speech and press conference on September 3, when it will release the Kirin 9000 chip, which is the 5nm process manufactured by TSMC. And on September 14, the day when TSMC officially delivered its chips. TSMC's 8 million Kirin 9000 chips are enough for Huawei to support its shipment capacity in the second half of the year.
These 8 million 5nm pixels have paid TSMC and all production capacity outside Apple's line. It is reported that TSMC's actions at critical moments fully reflect the deep friendship between TSMC and Huawei.
The deep friendship between TSMC and Huawei is based on years of sincere cooperation. In 2014, its largest customer, Qualcomm, chose to transfer to Samsung. At this time, Huawei began to cooperate with TSMC to develop advanced process processes. The 16nm process developed by TSMC and Huawei in 2014 was not ideal, resulting in many companies being reluctant to adopt the process. Huawei is one of the two major customers of this process, and Huawei uses this process to produce Netcom processors.
Then the two parties continued to cooperate to upgrade the 16nm process to 16nmFinFET process. The 16nmFinFET process exceeded expectations. The 14nmFinFET developed by competitor Samsung was not as good as TSMC's 16nmFinFET process. At that time, Apple's A9 processor was manufactured by Samsung and TSMC at the same time. However, the evaluation agency found that the power consumption of the A9 processor produced by Samsung caused the mobile phone to consume too fast power, while the A9 processor produced by TSMC performed ideally.
After that, the two parties have jointly developed 10nm, 7nm and current 5nm processes. It is precisely based on Huawei's sincere cooperation that TSMC will give priority to producing high-end chips for Huawei after the production of the new generation of advanced process processes every year.
In addition to striving to produce enough chips for Huawei before September 14, TSMC is also actively applying for a US license, hoping to position Huawei HiSilicon's Kirin chip series standard parts in order to continue to produce chips for Huawei. It can be seen that TSMC has made the greatest efforts for Huawei. (Huaxia Jingwei.com)
