The Three Gorges Dam Tourist Area was officially opened to the public in 1997 and was rated as one of the first national 5A-level tourist attractions in 2007, showing engineering culture and water conservancy culture in all aspects. It now has Tanziling park, 185 park and interception memorial park and other parks.

Tanziling is named because its top viewing platform looks like an inverted jar. It was originally a survey point for the dam construction and is the best place to enjoy the panoramic view of the Three Gorges Project; the 185 observation deck is named because it is 185 meters above sea level as the top of the Three Gorges Dam; the Three Gorges Intercept Memorial Park is the first water conservancy engineering theme park in China with the theme of the Three Gorges Project Intercept, integrating the functions of tourism, popular science, leisure, etc.

At present, there are 65 certified tour guides in the Three Gorges Dam Tourist Area. "One Zone" is the Three Gorges Dam tourist area, the "Four Towns" are Maoping Town in Zigui County, Sandoping Town in in Yiling District , Lottexi Town and Taipingxi Town . After the implementation of the plan, a tourism and leisure resort area will be formed with the "heavy weapon of a great country" as the core and the Three Gorges Hub Management Zone and the surrounding four towns.
