TV series "Secret and Great" mentions Soochow University, which is now unknown but famous in China back then.
Soochow University is the first Western-style university in China, with three colleges: liberal arts, science and law. Soochow University first has an English motto and then a Chinese motto. The English school motto "Unto a full –grown Man", and later the Chinese school motto "cultivate the righteousness of heaven and earth, and perfect the law in ancient and modern times."
The legal education of Soochow University was famous at home and abroad at that time, and was sometimes known as "Southern Eastern Wu and North Chaoyang". A large number of famous modern and contemporary law experts have been trained, such as Esen, Wang Chonghui, Wu Jingxiong, Ni Zhengyi, Li Haopei, Pan Handian, Yang Tie (Muliang), etc., which are hailed as "the first-class and most famous law school in South China." Since Soochow University was founded by the American Christian Supervisory Council, its legal education adopts the content of the British and American legal departments, and mainly cultivates ordinary legal talents. Unfortunately, since Soochow University, no law school in mainland China has such a deep British, American and French education system.
In 1952, the department was adjusted, and Soochow University was split into three, part of which went to the current Suzhou University, part of which went to East China University of Political Science and Law, and part of which went to Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. There was no Soochow University in the world. As for Soochow University, it always claims to be the mansion of Soochow University, it is just a name.
