Hu Jingfu (1886-1972), an entomologist, graduated from Soochow University (now ) in 1917, and was selected as Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (member of the academic department). He has been engaged in biology and insect teaching and research for more than 50 years and has made important contributions. The compiled "Stone Flies in China" and "Catalogue of Chinese Insects" are one of the masterpieces of Chinese entomology, which records 25 orders, 392 families, 4968 genera, and 20,069 species of insects. During the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, he participated in the anti-bacterial war investigation and was commended.
Jin Shanbao (1895-1997), an agronomist , was a professor at Jiangnan University (now Suzhou University) and the director of the Department of Agriculture. In 1955, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (member of the academic department). High yields have become high-quality and high-quality varieties such as Jinghong No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and "6082". Liu Chengzhao (1900-1976), a zoologist, taught at Soochow University (now Suzhou University ) in 1934, and was selected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1955. He has made achievements in the basic theoretical research on amphibian fauna classification, and has compiled the monographs "West China Amphibians" (1950) and "China's Tailless Amphibians", which has been valued by colleagues around the world. 40 species of 7 genera of the Horned Toad subfamily were discovered, and more than 60 new species and new subfamily were named, providing a scientific basis for studying the origin and evolution of the Horned Toad animals and contributing to the identification of the rich resources of amphibians in my country.
Zhou Tongqing (1907-1998), an optics and physicist, professor at Jiangnan University (now Suzhou University ). In 1955, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences . He has served as a professor at Peking University, Central University, Jiaotong University and Fudan University. He is mainly engaged in spectroscopy and gas discharge spectroscopy research. He is one of the pioneers of spectroscopy research in . In 1940, he used acoustic wave technology to measure the depth and distance of the Yangtze River and developed a "magnetic telescopic high-frequency acoustic wave automatic recording echo sounder". In 1955, he was the first medical closed X-ray tube in my country.
Gu Yidong (1903-1996), a chemist, graduated from Soochow University (now ) in 1923, and was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980. He was a professor at Fudan University. Mainly engaged in the chemistry of high-yield elements of tungsten, molybdenum, niobium, tantalum and rare elements in my country. Gao Shangyin (1909-1989), a virologist, graduated from Soochow University in 1930 (now Suzhou University ) and was elected as a member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Academician). The properties and applications of tobacco mosaic virus, influenza virus, Xincheng chicken plague virus, silkworm pus virus, rhizobia phage, pig asthma pathogens, insect polyhedral, granule virus, etc. were studied. Tan Jiazhen (1909-2009), a geneticist, graduated from Soochow University in 1929 (now Suzhou University ), was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980, and was elected as an honorary lifelong academician of the New York Academy of Sciences in 1999. He was a professor at Fudan University. Since the early 1930s, the genetic variation of Asian heterochromatic ladybug spots and the evolution of the cellular genetic maps of fruit flies and the evolution of interspecies-intraspecific genetic structures have been conducted, making significant contributions to the establishment of modern comprehensive evolution theory. Research on radiation genetics of monkeys, which led the Sino-Soviet cooperation in the early 1960s and research on tissue molecular genetics and plant genetic engineering since the 1970s, have achieved some important results.
Su Yuanfu (1910-1991), a chemical engineer, was admitted to the Department of Chemistry of Soochow University (now Suzhou University ) in 1929, and was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980. He has served as professor, vice president, director of the Institute of Chemical Engineering, and also as vice chairman of the Chinese Chemical Engineering Society. The main research areas are droplet extraction theory and application. We will conduct in-depth research on the theory of mass transfer in liquid droplets, and pay special attention to using extraction methods to solve practical problems in the utilization, energy conservation and environmental protection of China's abundant resources.
Shijun (1912-2005), a chemical engineer, was admitted to Soochow University in 1929 (now Suzhou University ), and was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980. In the 1950s, a major in silicate (cement) in higher education institutions in my country was established. In the 1960s, he devoted himself to research on the characteristics and drying technology of turbulence towers, packing towers and packings. Liu Jiankang (1917-2017), an ichthyologist and ecologist, graduated from Soochow University (now Suzhou University ) in 1938, and was elected as a member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Academician). He was the director of the Institute of Aquatic Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and was engaged in ichthyology research in his early years. Qin Junde (1916-2008), an insect physiologist, graduated from Soochow University (now Suzhou University ) in 1940, and was elected as an academician of (member of the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences) in 1991. The founding of China's first insect physiology research laboratory revealed the physiological relationship between insects and plants and clarified the theory of insects' selection of plants. Chen Ziyuan , nuclear agronomist, professor at the Southern Jiangsu Silk College (now Suzhou University ). Shen Zhiquan, an polymer chemist, taught at Jiangsu Normal University (now Suzhou University ) from 1952 to 1961, and was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995. Professor at Zhejiang University is engaged in basic research and applied basic research in the field of polymer chemistry, focusing on catalytic polymerization of transition metals and rare earth complexes. Wang Zhixin, a biochemistry and biophysicist, Professor of the Department of Medicine of Suzhou University, Suzhou University, and was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997. Pan Junhua , an expert in applied optics, Researcher and doctoral supervisor of the Institute of Modern Optics, Suzhou University. In 1999, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering . He has been engaged in the development of optical instruments, processing and testing of optical components and systems for a long time. From 1972 to 1974, a laser spherical interferometer was developed and won the 1978 National Science Conference Award. In 1989, it completed the 2.16-meter astronomical telescope and its special auxiliary instrument-stage grating spectrometer, and won the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 1998 and the third prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 1999 respectively.
Song Daxiang (1935-2008), arachnid and invertebrate zoologist, graduated from the Department of Biology of Jiangsu Normal University (now Suzhou University ) in 1953. So far, 2 new subfamilies and 14 new genera have been established, and more than 300 new species have been discovered. He is currently the director of the Institute of Superconducting Electronics, Nanjing University and director of the Superconducting Electronics Branch of the Chinese Electronics Society. Li Shutang , an expert in materials chemistry and physics, professor at Suzhou University, and was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2005. Chai Zhifang , a radiochemist, professor of the School of Radiology and Protection, Department of Medicine, Suzhou University, and was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007. He has been engaged in radiochemical and nuclear analysis technology research for a long time, and advocated molecular-neutron activation analysis to discover some geological boundary iridium anomalies and various chemical species of abnormal iridium related to biological extinction events. He enriched and developed the famous extraterrestrial impact theory and established a new method for neutron activation analysis of platinum group elements. In addition, radiation analysis methods were used to study environmental problems.
