When we arrived at the Chengdong Xunmei Flood Lake Landscape Park located on the east side of Tongyuan Street in Chengdong District, Fengze District, on the leveled construction site, workers are busy planting green plants and paving the park roads. Two years ago, Mr. Huang moved from his hometown in Nan'an to Quanzhou City to help take care of his grandson. He often missed the days when he went out to wander around in the evening when he was in his hometown. He still remembers that when his son and his family first lived in the east area of the city, there was still a low-lying area outside the window, and no one took care of it. Some places were overgrown with weeds, some places were piled up in silt, and sometimes you could smell a stench when you opened the window. "In the future, the park will be built and the scenery outside the window will improve, so you won't have to worry about not having a place to go."
According to the plan, the two flood-retaining lakes in the park will be equipped with leisure and recreational areas and wetland experience areas. In the leisure and recreation area, there will be a water-friendly platform, event square, walkway, coffee house, people's bookstore, etc., and there will also be table tennis tables, badminton courts and football fields. Pass the bridge and walk down the trail to the wetland experience area. Surrounding the green flood retention lake is a free undulating walkway. There will also be 2 basketball courts, 1 volleyball court and 1 goal court on the lakeside. It is not difficult to imagine the expectations of the surrounding residents for the completion of the landscape lake.

"The Chengdong Xunmei Flood Retention Lake Landscape Park is a supporting project for flood detention in the east area. The project construction content mainly includes flood detention lake construction and park landscape construction, with a total area of 116,700 square meters. It is built according to the once-in-one standard for preventing mountain torrents and flood prevention. After completion, it will become the largest flood detention lake landscape park in Quanzhou Chengdong area." Lin Huiping, the project site manager, introduced that the project has changed the traditional water conservancy project model, combined with the dual functions of flood detention and drainage and leisure and recreation, and planned and designed. Without affecting the safety of flood control and drainage, the spatial layout and linear settings are carried out from the perspective of landscape aesthetics, so that the flood control function is integrated into the landscape. After the completion of the
project, it will effectively solve the problems of single functions of the original flood detention area, lack of leisure and recreation space, and the system of transportation and tourism systems not yet formed, further improve the flood control and drainage capacity of the east urban area, and at the same time effectively improve the local living environment and achieve the dual improvement of the functional quality of the area and the ecological landscape.

This project implements the concept of sponge city construction, combines the low-impact development (LID) measures for landscape engineering design, and adopts permeable paving, ecological bank protection, rainwater garden and other measures to change the traditional rainwater collection and discharge system, delay the time when rainwater enters the pipeline network, so that the initial rainwater is purified, and the role of natural accumulation, natural penetration, and natural purification can be used to achieve the symbiosis between the city and nature.
In addition, the project responds to Quanzhou’s “ecological continuous belt” concept, integrates into the construction of “mountain and rivers and pastoral cities”, builds a three-level structural system of “ecological barrier zone-ecological corridor zone-ecological experience zone”, and strives to create an urban waterfront ecological green corridor where “citizens go for a long time and tourists will come”.
