major Australian airlines will be banned from saying "air tickets are non-refundable"
to protect consumers' rights.
This decision is because the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) criticized Jetstar, Tiger Airlines, Qantas and Virgin for misleading consumers' rights to refund their tickets, and the ACCC has urged airlines to review their refund policies to avoid misleading consumers.
Jetstar said they have indicated on the website that some air tickets cannot be refunded unless they purchased high-fare tickets.
ACCC therefore believes that Jetstar misled consumers in terms of the right to refund tickets, and proposed to fine it AU$1.95 million (RMB9.75 million) and submit it to federal court for approval.
, while Tiger Airlines means that consumers must pay a refund fee to get a refund.
House and Virgin also admitted that they have hinted online that some tickets with fares cannot be refunded, including Qantas special tickets (“Red e-deal”).
ACCC A spokesperson said:
"Every year we receive more than thousands of complaints to airlines, and we find that many consumers are dissatisfied with it."
From January 1, 2016 to December 14, 2017, ACCC received a total of 1,400 passengers complaints to airlines, hundreds of which were about the "return and exchange airlines".
In the future, the four major Australian airlines will create an Australian consumer legal page on their website,
