I am greedy and lazy, I don’t like to work, I only love the movie
In the past few days, the most popular movie is " Life Events ".
Douban scored 7.5 and maintained so far. It achieved a box office downturn in the first weekend, and it exceeded 300 million in four days of release (the total box office forecast has reached 1 billion+) , and the topics on various platforms remain high.
film directed by new director Liu Jiangjiang and produced by Han Yan . Zhu Yilong and "post-10" young actor Yang En again. It tells a warm story with tears and laughter that happened in the funeral industry.
When the slutty funeralist Mo Sanmei accidentally "adopted" the orphan girl Xiaowen, the ice in his heart began to melt. In this special father-daughter relationship, he learned love and responsibility, and reached a reconciliation with his father.
As a dark horse in the summer season, the theme, details and behind the scenes of the film are worth mentioning.
So today, Xiao Wan will talk about the 5 behind-the-scenes stories of "The Big Events in Life", which hides details that you may have missed.
Tip: This article involves spoilers, and the reading experience after watching the movie
Why is it called "Mo Sanmei"?
The male protagonist Mo Sanmei, male, in her 30s, released from prison.
This buzzhead gangster with slippers, a vest, a cigarette in his mouth, and a slutty man inherited the career of a funeralist from his father. He was happy but a little frigid.
Dad Mo has three children: the eldest sister who works hard all day long, the second brother who dies young, and the third brother who thinks he is "unloved".
But how could such a big man be called "Three Sisters"? We clearly felt in the early part of the video that Mo Sanmei hated this name and would make others call him "San Ge".
It was not until the old father fell ill that he told a story beside the bed that we knew the origin of the name "Mo Sanmei".
It turned out that the second brother, who had inherited his father's business since childhood, died thirty years ago while catching a corpse by the river. Dad Mo, who was deeply in pain of losing his son, gave him a girl's name in order to pray that the child could grow up safely.
In some areas in the south, there is indeed a custom of giving names to boys, which means to support them.
There is also a history about the protagonist's name. In the first edition of "The Great Events in Life", Mo Sanmei is called "Mo Sanbi".
Because in the customs of the director's hometown, parents will use the organs on their faces into their names in order to express their cherishment and love for their children, meaning "to love you like they love the organs."
In addition, the English name of the video has also been changed once, before it was "Funeral Family" (Funeral Family) , and later it was "Lighting up the stars" (Lighting up the stars) .
The name "Funeral Family" has a Japanese flavor, while "Lighting the Stars" is a bit more literary and artistic, echoing the warm theme of "The dead have become stars in the sky, and the funeralist is a person with a star".
Nezha battle Sun Wukong
There are two characters that are repeatedly emphasized in "Big Events in Life":
Xiaowen with chirping braids and wearing red tassel gun toys is Little Nezha; the third sister who wears a gold necklace and bracelet and thinks she has a unique ability is Sun Wukong.
We all know that in " Journey to the West ", Sun Wukong and Little Nezha didn't meet each other, and later became friends.
Their personalities are somewhat similar: they are both people who are not afraid of heaven and earth. The same is true for Xiaowen and Sanmei, who talk about "I" every day and challenge authority.
Xiaowen doesn’t know who his own father is. The relationship between the third sister and her father also went through a split-reconciliation process, which corresponds to the absence of Nezha’s biological father during his growth, and the Wukong’s inability to flip out the father’s love.
There was a scene in the film where two people watched "Journey to the West" together. The third sister saved Xiaowen's nickname as "Little Nezha", and Xiaowen also called the third sister "The Monkey King". These plots all imply the image relationship between the two.
A set of character posters were released before the release of the film. Among them, the third sister is a "mud Arhat for the sake of justice and a general who will lose paper every battle", and Xiaowen is a "lawless and intelligent ghost, a lovely insect with affection and righteousness". These two highlights reflect the director's accurate grasp of the characters.
Dialect Movie and Hanwei Culture
"Big Events in Life" was filmed in Wuhan. The plot sets Yanjiang City is a gathering place for foreign populations. There are dialects mixed with all over the world:
Sanmei and her ex-girlfriend are talking authentic Wuhan dialect + Wuhan flavor Mandarin ; Xiaowen and her uncle speak neat Sichuan dialect ; two colleagues of the third sister speak Guangxi dialect and Northeast dialect ; other extras speak Wuhan dialect.
Zhu Yilong and Wu Qian are from Wuhan, so the lines contain the purest oral habits and curses, such as "Laote" (Dad) , "Kidnapped" (Brother) , " Annoying " (Blind) , " Banma " (Auxiliary tone for disgust) , etc.
The funeral home of the third sister is open at the intersection of the streets. Like the wedding shop next door, it is a place where the store is opened and the house is opened. It opens during the day and closes and sleeps at night.
filming location is Baoyuanli, Wuhan, a common way of dividing residential areas in the local old city. These houses are usually hundreds of years old, unique among the tall buildings, and are the habitat for the small citizens on the ground floor.
The video repeatedly appears in hot dry noodles, fried dough sticks, chicken coin dumplings, etc., creating a steaming life atmosphere. When the third sister and others were having breakfast, they sat on a small stool and placed the bowl on a high stool to eat. This is the local "premature" feature of Wuhan.
In the noisy coordinate environment of the north and north tunes and the atmosphere of fireworks, the citizens' aura of the film instantly became strong. The beauty of dialect regional movies is that they can quickly pull the audience into a down-to-earth situation, giving the movie a bit more realistic and grounded.
Liu Jiangjiang and "To Heaven"
Liu Jiangjiang, the director of "The Great Events in Life", is a new director, from Hebei Province. He has grown up in rural North China since childhood.
His family has been carpenters for generations, and they are good at making coffins and take on funerals in the village. When Liu Jiangjiang was influenced by his childhood, he was not afraid and often lay in the coffin to play.
After graduating from university, Liu Jiangjiang served as director of Hebei TV's "What's in the Village" program. Seven years of work experience allowed him to accumulate a lot of creative material after changing careers in movies.
He remembered that he had passed by a funeral home, where there was a little girl doing her homework. This was the original source of inspiration for "The Great Events in Life".
Personal experience is often the creative nutrient for artists. Childhood memory and grassroots experience have continuously deepened Liu Jiangjiang's creative obsession. Making a funeral work has always been his thought.
In 2018, after field trips in Baiyangdian, Liu Jiangjiang began to conceive a script.
In 2019, he was shortlisted for the venture capital unit of the Pingyao Film Exhibition with his original script "To Heaven". This platform that nurtures and explores young filmmakers gave Liu Jiangjiang the opportunity to take a bigger stage, and venture capital also strengthened his "decision to make movies."
In 2021, the film was renamed "The Big Events in Life" and started successfully.
Han Yan and the motto of life and death
The producer of "The Big Event in Life" is Han Yan, a mature film director born in the 1980s. His representative works are " Send You a Little Red Flower ", " Animal World " and "Get Out! Tumor Jun.
Liu Jiangjiang believes that "Han Yan is a guiding light for his career, protecting his creation." From another perspective, the script "To Heaven" that explains life and death coincides with Han Yan's creative preferences.
Han Yan's early work "The First Time" tells the love story of a terminally ill girl. Although it is a market-oriented work, the fragile and beautiful flower-withering atmosphere created by the film is unforgettable.
"Get out! "The Lord of Tumor" is one of Han Yan's "Life Trilogy", which depicts the disease-resistant story of a terminally ill cartoonist. Although the plot is very sad, the presentation is lively and novel.
"Send You a Little Red Flower" is the second part of the "Life Trilogy", which depicts the collision and dependence of two anti-cancer families. The last "Tianzhu Park", the "Life Trilogy", has also been launched, and the story is about the life of a child with cerebral palsy.
It is not difficult to find that Han Yan has a special liking for life and death. He is good at using commercial brushstrokes to condense the tragedy and comedy of the world, wrapping the audience in both laughter and cry.
The cherishment of life, respect for death, instinct for love for life, and respect for things after death in the script of "Major Events in the World" all echo Han Yan's past works. The cooperation between the two can be said to be a perfect match.
The realistic theme of "Big Events in Life" + Emotional Resonance +social issues, as well as the box office and reputation results achieved at present, it is hard not to think of "Miracle·Stupid Kid" and " My Sister ".
They all gain a wide audience by relying on their meticulous and sincere emotional expression and tear-jerking effects. The cost is not high but it often becomes a dark horse in the market.
This is like a new domestic film type that is becoming increasingly mature and focused on emotions. It can achieve the copying of emotional resonance through excellent actors and down-to-earth scripts.
We sincerely hope that such movies that are both realistic and dreamy, compassionate and warm can be more, so that we can cry, laugh and see the world in the cinema.
