The British education magazine " Times Higher Education " (THE) released this year's global university rankings on October 12. The highest ranking , the University of Tokyo , fell from 35th last year to 39th, and the second place in Japan, , the Kyoto University , also fell from 61st last year to 68th. Overall, Oxford University in the UK ranked first for seven consecutive years.

Within the top 500, there are Tohoku University in the 250th digits, Osaka University in the 300th digits, while Nagoya University and Tokyo University of Technology in the 350th digits.
The top ten are monopolized by universities in the United Kingdom and the United States. The highest ranking in Asia is Tsinghua University, China, ranked 16th. Peking University and Singapore National University ranked 17th and 19th respectively.
Among the top 100 universities, in terms of countries and regions, the United States has the largest number, with 34. In Asia, mainland China has the most 7, with 5 and 3 respectively, and Japan and and Singapore each.
