After entering the Age of Discovery, Europeans were keen on ocean exploration. Portugal became the first Asian country to open up Asian routes. On the way to trade with China and Japan, they saw a beautiful island called Formosa, which was transliterated as "Formosa", which became Taiwan's alias in the West.
However, because of their busy trade, they did not log in, but just painted it into the navigation map, which attracted the attention of the Spanish colonists. At this time, Spain had already occupied Manila in the fifth year of Longqing (1571 AD). But they met Japan, who was equally ambitious. During this period, Toyotomi Hideyoshi sent someone to Taiwan and brought the "Takayama State Edict Plan", hoping to make Taiwan surrender voluntarily through intimidation.

The Spaniards who learned the news originally wanted to capture Taiwan to take the initiative, but unexpectedly, within a few years, Toyotomi Hideyoshi died of illness, so the matter was delayed. In the fourth year of the Apocalypse (1624 AD), the Dutch who wanted to occupy the Macau and Penghu Islands were frustrated, so they turned to attack Taiwan and started a colonial rule for 38 years. This is the first regime on Taiwan Island from Europe, with the aim of serving as a colonial stronghold for the East India Company, in confronting Spain in Asia.

Time went on to the fifteenth year of Yongli (April 29, 1661), and a large army of 25,000 people suddenly appeared on the Taiwan coastline, which shocked the Governor Kuiyi. The Dutch are no strangers to the leaders of this army. As early as 30 years ago, Zheng Chenggong's father Zheng Zhilong personally signed a treaty with the Dutch, allowing them to occupy Taiwan forever. Now, Zheng Zhilong's son Zheng Chenggong has led his troops to regain Taiwan.

In the early stages of the war, the Zheng army went very smoothly. The Dutch only occupied a very small bay in Taiwan, with strongholds being Jelanzha and Chichi. After Zheng Chenggong landed, more than 240 Dutch musketeers took the initiative to attack and were lured into the encirclement by the Zheng army, completely annihilated, and the main force was lost. Even if one is collapsed, the rest can still be quickly restored, so it is extremely difficult for the enemy to get close to it.
Seeing that the strong attack was set, Zheng Chenggong had to order a siege, which was undoubtedly a huge test for both sides of the war. At that time, agricultural production on the island was very underdeveloped, and the Qing Dynasty regarded Zheng Chenggong and others as traitors, so the Zheng army could hardly receive any food and grass assistance.In desperation, Zheng Chenggong could only comfort the officers and soldiers by killing corrupt officials and taking the lead in reducing food rations. The Dutch are in a bad condition, but they have few people, so they can support them for a while by storing food.

After Shi Lang recovered Taiwan, Emperor Kangxi called it the "Southern Ming Relic" and allowed the descendants of the Zheng family to move their coffin back; during the Guangxu period, the Qing government realized the importance of Taiwan after the "Mudan Club" incident and officially set up the Yanping County Prince Temple in Taiwan to worship Zheng Chenggong. After Japan occupied Taiwan through the Treaty of Shimonoseki, Zheng was born in Japan and his mother Takawa was Japanese, so the Japanese combined it with Shintoism and transformed it into a "Kaishan Shrine". After the end of World War II, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party also highly praised it. It seems that everyone can find what they need from the "Guoshi" and regard it as a "national hero".
