Spirit AeroSystems received USD 80 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Defense

Spirit AeroSystems (a manufacturer of composite materials and metal structures used in the commercial and defense sectors) announced on June 11 that the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) allocated USD 80 million to Spirit to expand its advanced tools, domestic production capacity of composite materials and metal manufacturing and metal manufacturing.
Spirit said it will use the funds to build molds at its Wichita factory, manufacture composite parts and process complex metal parts. This 12 million square foot space is often focused on large, complex, soft metals and composite parts for fuselage, hanger and wing structures.

Bye Aerospace began the next flight testing phase for eFlyer 2

Bye Aerospace (general aviation all-electric aircraft company that develops FAA 23 certification) announced on June 22 that it has begun the next phase of its composite-intensive two-seater aircraft flight testing program. Bye Aerospace’s goal is to make its eFlyer series aircraft one of the first FAA Part 23 certified practical full electric aircraft , serving flight training, air taxis and general aviation markets.

Diamond Aircraft launches full carbon fiber DA50 RG aircraft

Diamond Aircraft reported on June 24 that it will provide the market with its full carbon fiber DA50 RG aircraft. According to Diamond Aircraft, the DA50 RG offers full carbon fiber composite body and passive safety technology to provide high performance and occupational protection. The company also reported several features that achieve optimal flight performance, including high lift, low speed behavior and drag reduction with double-hinged double-slit flaps. In addition, Liqun Zhang, the company's CEO, pointed out that using the aircraft's Jet-A engine can reduce emissions compared to low-lead aviation fuels, and that the DA50 RG is a low-cost alternative to charter operators and a private choice pilot needs more seats and space.
According to Diamond Aircraft, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) type certificate will be conducted in the late summer of 2020, and FAA certification will begin after 2021. Orders are now open, with the first delivery period being the end of the first quarter of 2021.

ACT Blade and AMRC cooperate to produce 13mwind turbine blade demonstration

Herffield University’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Center (AMRC) reported on July 2 that the company has collaborated with ACT Blade to produce a 13m wind turbine blade demonstration with ACT Blade, which has a new architecture for ACT Blade that can greatly reduce blade weight and manufacturing costs.
New lightweight composite blade structure encased in a fabric shell, which is reduced by two-thirds of the weight compared to the typical glass fiber blade design, can be manufactured for longer time to generate more energy, and ultimately has the potential to create offshore wind energy.
UK is the world leader in offshore wind power , with more installed capacity than any other country. Offshore wind power has powered 4.5 million households each year and will provide more than 30% of the electricity to the UK by 2030.

Fiberline is Nordex Group Wind Blades provide carbon fiber profiles

Fiberline (known for supplying carbon fiber and fiberglass profiles to manufacturers in the wind energy industry) announced on June 24 that it has signed a contract with Nordex Group for installing wind turbine blades on Nordex's Delta4000 turbine model. Fiberline said the deal was by far the largest carbon fiber profile contract.

UK develops sustainable composite materials to meet the challenges of composite material recycling
UK Deputy Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, MP Nadim Zawahi announced on July 3 at the Sustainability Summit at the University of Bristol that the organization has launched a new initiative called "Sustainable Composites". Leaded by NCC (National Composite Materials Center) and CPI (Center for Process Innovation), the program aims to develop the next generation of sustainable composite materials by addressing the challenges of composite recycling. Nadim Zawahi said the partnership between industry, academia and government will leverage the UK's composite research and technology development capabilities to leverage the rapidly growing global scrap recycling market of about £2 billion.
The plan states that of the 110,000 tons of composite materials produced annually in the UK, only 15% of the materials can be reused or recycled at the end of their service life. Furthermore, it notes that although composites increase the life of the product they are used, the recycling process is difficult, and current recycling technologies often reduce the performance of the material, reduce its value and provide limited applications.

Teiren increases short carbon fiber production capacity

Teiren Group's carbon fiber business in Europe Teiren Carbon Europe Co., Ltd. reported on June 26 that its production capacity of chopped carbon fiber Tenax-E HT C604 6 mm has increased by 40%.
