During the event, Xue Qikun, President of South University of Science and Technology and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, drew the blueprint for the school's development for everyone. He pointed out that whether it is in the innovation of student cultivation models, the reform of the enrollment system, the exploration of systems and mechanisms, the construction of cutting-edge discipline groups, the rapid gathering and growth of first-class teachers, and the efforts of a new type of industry, academia and research system, South China University of Science and Technology is working hard to explore and has formed the unique school-running model of South China University of Science and Technology. "Undergraduates are the cornerstone of universities and determine the height of future development of universities." Xue Qikun focused on introducing the core of the five major action plans for the future development of the school: "Talent Training Excellence Plan". He said that South China University of Science and Technology will promote the combination of general knowledge and majors, deepen the new model of collaborative education between academies and departments; target major scientific issues, and form a new model of collaborative education between disciplines and university science platforms; focus on key core technologies and major national strategic development needs, and build a new model of collaborative education between industry, academia and research; implement the "Academic Promotion Plan" for undergraduates to support students' independent scientific research. South China University of Science and Technology will use the "Talent Training Excellence Program" to cultivate new people of the times who are responsible for the great task of national rejuvenation: through "creating knowledge", cultivate scientists who explore major scientific problems; through "innovation", cultivate engineers who solve key core technical problems; through "entrepreneurship", cultivate entrepreneurs who master original hard technology. Since 2012, South China University of Science and Technology has pioneered the "6+3+1" enrollment model in the country, that is, to admit outstanding students based on comprehensive scores that account for 60% of the college entrance examination scores, 30% of the ability test scores organized by the school, and 10% of the high school academic scores. South China University of Science and Technology will continue to adopt this model this year to select outstanding science students with discipline expertise and innovation potential. In 2020, the average score of the college entrance examination admitted by South China University of Science and Technology in various provinces exceeded the first-tier score line by 129. The college entrance examination results of freshmen in most provinces rank among the top 1.8% of science in the province. In 2020, more than 65% of undergraduate graduates from South China University of Science and Technology went to prestigious universities at home and abroad to further study, and the rest were employed in Shenzhen and other places, with an employment rate of more than 98%. Among the undergraduate graduates who chose to continue their studies, the proportion of direct applicants was nearly 24%. This year, the school’s online registration will end on April 30, and the ability test will be held after the college entrance examination in mid-June.
