In the middle section of the Ancient Culture Street, there is an ancient building complex facing west and east. This is Tianjin Tianhou Temple . Tianjin Tianhou Temple is the largest Mazu Temple in northern China and the oldest architectural community in Tianjin. It has a history of nearly 700 years.
When it comes to Tianhou Temple, friends in southern China are more familiar with it, especially in many places in coastal cities, the shadow of Tianhou Temple can be seen, but the name is different in different places. Some places are called Mazu Temple, some places are called Tianfei Palace, and now the more ordinary name is Tianhou Temple. The origin of Tianhou Temple is in the area of Putian , Fujian Province, and is said to be to commemorate a woman named Lin Moniang. Legend has it that during the Jianlong period of the Northern Song Dynasty, Lin Moniang was born in a small fishing village on the banks of Meizhou Bay in Putian City, Fujian Province. Because she did not cry since she was a child, her family named her Lin Mo.

Because it grows by the sea, Lin Mo is relatively good in water and often rescues victims and fishermen at sea. Lin Mo is also proficient in divination and predicting the weather, and has a skillful medical technique of rejuvenating the youth. Therefore, it is deeply loved by the people nearby. People call Lin Mo the goddess. Around the Yongxi period of the Northern Song Dynasty, Lin Mo unfortunately fell into the water and died while rescued a ship in distress at sea. The villagers were unwilling to admit that Lin Mo died, thinking that she had ascended to immortality, so they later called her Lin Mo Niang. Later, the Tianhou Temple that appeared in Fujian, Guangdong, Taiwan and other places was built to commemorate Lin Moniang, and Mazu was also called Lin Moniang's popular name later.

It was built in the third year of Taiding in Yuan Dynasty (1326) and has a history of nearly 700 years. The "New School of Tianjin Weizhi" rebuilt during the Republic of China period contains records of Tianfei Palace, and the location map of Tianfei Palace is also shown in the Tianjin Acropolis map.

From this we can see that after the Tianhou harem in Tianjin was built in the Yuan Dynasty, the Ming and Qing dynasties had been rebuilt or rebuilt many times. Most of the buildings that have been preserved should be rebuilt in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The current Tianhou Palace includes theaters, banners, mountain gates, archways, front halls, halls, scripture pavilions, Qisheng Temple, bell and drum towers, and side halls. The main building is the hall located on the central axis. The plaque "Protecting the Country and Protecting the People" in the main hall was engraved in the first year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1573). It has a history of more than 400 years. Another plaque "Chuiyou Yinggui" was written by Emperor Jiaqing of the 13th year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1808) for the imperial pen of the Tianhou Palace when Emperor Jiaqing came to Tianjin.

on the middle of the mountain gate and the front hall. The front is inscribed with the four words "Haimen Cifa". It is said that it was written by Xue Zhudou of Tianjin Dao. I don’t know who wrote the four words "Hundred Valleys Chaozong" on the back.

Days of the Palace Hall, the easternmost theater in the harem, looks relatively new, unlike the buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and is probably a building rebuilt in recent years. There are two tall flagpoles between the theater and the gate of Tianhou Palace. Later, when I visited the Governor's Office in Zhili, Baoding, I also saw almost the same flagpole. Its scientific name should be called the flagpole. The role of the flagpole of the Tianhou Palace was originally used to hang red lanterns to navigate the ships on the sea and rivers. Later, during the Tianhou Palace temple fair, it was specially used to hang the long flag of the Tianhou Palace.
