U.S. House Speaker Pelosi visited Taiwan in early August and the situation across the Taiwan Strait heated up, and the People's Liberation Army continued to conduct military exercises around the island. Then again there were voices on the island asking for an extension of military service, proposing to extend it from the current four months to one year. What does the DPP really dare to do this?
html On the 121st, the Taiwanese people first waited for the "Ministry of National Defense" to announce that the exemption standards have become stricter. In the Taiwan Military Amendment, the most adjusted indicator is to measure whether you are too fat or too thin, BMI value , that is, the body mass index, which is calculated by dividing the weight (kg) by the square of height (meters).
Current regulations of the Taiwan Army, " Reservist " recruitment is a man with a BMI value of 17-31, and the new version stipulates that the BMI value will be relaxed to 16.5-32. Take a man with a height of 170 cm, for example, if his BMI value is 16.5, his weight is about 47.7 kg; if his BMI value is 32, his weight is about 92.3 kg. In this part of " replacement ", the Taiwan Army originally required the recruitment requirement of a man with a BMI value of 16.5-17 or 31-31.5. The new version adjusted the standard to a BMI value between 15-16.5 or 32-35. In terms of height standards, the current provisions are exempt from service below 157 cm, and the new amendment adds that men with service of 155-157 cm must serve as replacement service.
According to the new regulations of the Taiwan Army, only if the height is less than 155 cm and the BMI value exceeds 35 or below 15 can the military service be exempted. What is this concept? Take a man with a height of 170 cm, as an example, if his BMI value is 35, his weight is about 101.2 kg; if his BMI value is 15, his weight is about 43.4 kg. In other words, if you are not extremely fat, ordinary fat people have to serve in the military.
In recent years, it has been difficult for the Taiwan military to recruit soldiers. Last year, the number of births was 154,000 and the number of deaths was 184,000, which naturally increased to negative 30,000. At the same time, some people are really trying to avoid military service. In May this year, a case occurred on the island: In order to exempt him from military service, a man actually asked a patient with AIDS to have a physical examination for him. As a result, the military service was really exempted. However, he was about to marry his girlfriend, but he received calls from the health department to ask him to go to the hospital for re-examination. In order to avoid making his girlfriend mistakenly think that he really had AIDS and could not get married, he took the initiative to surrender to the prosecution. As a result, the prosecutor followed the clues and found that the AIDS patient had improper financial transactions with five other men. All five admitted that they had indeed used this method to evade military service.
No wonder the Taiwanese people, the politicians of the DPP authorities, have all kinds of deserters. For example, Lin Feifan, deputy secretary-general of the Democratic Progressive Party, who was just listed on the list of "Taiwan independence" diehards by the mainland, was unwilling to serve in the military and only served as a substitute for more than ten days. After the Russian-Ukrainian conflict broke out, he shouted, "We are all Ukrainians at this moment," but was ridiculed by the masses. Most netizens asked him to serve in the military first.
The Taiwan military has now come up with raising the threshold for exemption from military service, which is just a temporary measure, the focus is that the DPP authorities dare not offend young people. During the Chen Shui-bian period, military service was reduced by two months every once in a while. As a result, when Ma Ying-jeou was handed over, the service period for young people had been reduced from two years to one year. During his tenure, Ma Ying-jeou vigorously promoted the recruitment system of , and cancelled the one-year service period, but the law also stipulated that men had the obligation to serve in the military, so it was changed to a 4-month military training service without amending the law.
After Tsai Ing-wen came to power, the United States has been putting pressure on "using Taiwan to control China". On the one hand, it requires Taiwan to strengthen its reserve force, and on the other hand, it proposes to extend the service period and resume recruitment. Tsai Ing-wen did not dare to offend the United States, and was afraid of losing votes for young people, so she made a fuss about the reserve. In the past, she was recruited four times within 8 years of retirement, each time of 5-7 days; now it has been changed to 14 days, but it can be offset twice. This is a change of soup or not, and it has little impact on young votes.
Two days ago, Taiwan's "Central Election Association" announced statistics, and it is estimated that the total number of electors in of the "nine-in-one" election by the end of the year is nearly 19.3 million, of which about 760,000 are young first voters. When a large number of netizens saw the number of 760,000, they all said, "The DPP is afraid." No wonder they dared not announce the extension of military service to one year.
