Although South Korean Navy currently has three "Sejong-class" based on the US military Burke class (Arleigh Burke class), the number is not enough, so Seoul proposed a self-designed 6,000-ton ASCH destroyer to expand its fleet strength. Currently, the two largest shipbuilders in South Korea: Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine Engineering (DSME), and Hyundai Heavy Industry (HHI), have competed with the design deadline in 2023, while the construction deadline is 2024.

The armed forces have 64 vertical launch units and 16 anti-ship missiles.
