The former name of Kaohsiung is "Dao Dog". Because in 1920, Japan implemented the administrative region reform based on the "Taiwan Governor's Office" and included some branches of the former Tainan Department, Ahou Hall (Pingtung) and Penghu Department into the newly established "Kaohsiung Prefecture", "Dao Dog" was officially renamed "Kaohsiung". To celebrate the "Kaohsiung" who accompanied Taiwan through a hundred years of long years, the mayor of Kaohsiung, the Kuomintang, Han Kuo-yu, attended the event to show his importance.
The century-old commemoration of Kaohsiung's name change is a local event, but no Kuomintang or Democratic Progressive Party or non-party member was present at today's event. At the end of the event, Han and Deputy Mayor Ye Kuangshi and the head of the Municipal Government Bureau came to the stage to celebrate the "100th Year of Kaohsiung" and symbolized the next century of Kaohsiung in the form of a cake cut.
Han-yu pointed out that he is happy and honored to celebrate the 100-year renaming event with everyone. The opening video allows everyone to review the key events of the century and bring back many memories of everyone.
Han said that he missed the city scenery when he came to Kaohsiung to study at the Army Officer's School at the age of 18. This Kaohsiung 100 series of activities were cooperated by the municipal government and spontaneously participated by the Lili Foundation. It was planned from the perspectives of urban architecture, public art, history, tourism, land development and other diversity to present Kaohsiung's diverse colors. To remember the past and look forward to the future, in addition to witnessing the collective memory of Kaohsiung’s diversified development, we must also look forward to the future. Han said that the team will work hard to make the beautiful Kaohsiung head towards a more exciting future.
This event also invited the Gushan Primary School Choir, which had been in school for 107 years, to sing on stage. Primary school students carried masks to recite "Old Dog Beat" to praise Kaohsiung, which was particularly cute.
