"Miss China" beauty pageant can be traced back to 1960. From the end of April to early June of that year, the first trial competition was held in Kaohsiung , Taichung , Taipei and other places. It was hosted by the Dahua Evening News (which was suspended in 1989). The champion, Asian and third-place winners were Lin Jingyi, Ye Muqiu and Wang Liling respectively.
Lin Jingyi, 22 years old at the time, graduated from the Practice College (the predecessor of the Practice University). As the first "Miss China" in history, Lin Jingyi was recommended to participate in the Miss International trial competition held in the United States in August of that year. Although he did not get any ranking, He was warmly welcomed in the overseas Chinese community.
The second "Miss China" debuted in 1961 and was also hosted by the Dahua Evening News. There were three champions, namely Ma Weijun , Wang Liling and Li Xiuying. Among them, Wang Liling was the third place in the first session, and Li Xiuying was the fifth place in the first session; there were three runner-ups, namely Zhao Lingyu, Tian Minyuan and Li Houlun; the third place was Chen Meinu.
Taiwan related institutions later recommended Ma Weijun, Wang Liling and Li Xiuying to participate in the Changdi Miss World , Miss Universe , and Miss London World competitions. Ma and Wang stopped in the top 15, and Li Xiuying won the second place. Later, because Miss Britain, the first place, abstained, she also became the first. The Chinese were the winner of the international beauty pageant.

The third "Miss China" was held in 1962 and was co-organized by 9 units. A total of 9 beauties were on the list, including three champions, namely Fang Yu, Liu Xiulan and Jiang Leshun. Fang Yu later married the son of Lian Zhendong, the then "Minister of the Interior" Lian Zhan , and his husband's surname was " Lian Fang Yu ".
Two years later, the fourth "Miss China" appeared in 1964, and 9 people were also selected, with the champions being Zhao Lingyu, Yu Yi and Lin Suxing. According to information, Taiwan's senior actor is the "Miss China" that year "The champion of Kaohsiung District thus began his acting career.

Gradually, it was said that "Miss China" was held for high-ranking officials to choose daughters-in-law. In addition, the organizer's financial situation was poor. In 1965, the "Executive Yuan" ordered the suspension of the "Miss China" selection, which has been for more than 20 years.
In the late 1980s, the Taiwan authorities once again opened the three-in-one beauty pageant, representing the Miss Global, World and International Taiwan competition zones. In order to distinguish from the Miss China selected by the mainland, Taiwan uses the titles such as "Miss Republic of China", "Miss China", and "Miss Taiwan", but the people are still accustomed to calling it "Miss China".
After 24 years, Taiwan-wide beauty pageants appeared again on the island in 1988, and there were two in a year. The "Miss International Jiale" selection competition hosted by the Taipei Tourism Association selected five beauties, Ling Huihui, Zhao Yinghua, Zhou Huifen, Cai Jingmei and Chen Chunli.
Another beauty pageant was hosted by the "Miss China Selection Conference" organized by China Times, China TV Company and business tycoon Tang Rirong and others. Three of them were selected, including the first, second and third place. Among them, Zhang Shujuan, who was involved in the scandal, was tied for the championship with Hu Feicui and Wu Yining at the time. Zhang Shujuan was born in 1963 and was a flight attendant. After winning the "Miss China", she participated in the Miss International selection, won the second place, and won the Best Popularity Award.

In the 1990s, the selection of "Miss China" was held in a dispute, and the organizers also had constant disputes, but basically maintained the frequency of at least one event a year. For example, Xu Shuhua, who represented the Kuomintang in the Nantou County Mayor's election this year, was the fourth place in "Miss China" in 1996.

Born in Chongqing in 1940, Tang Rirong later came to Taiwan with his father and received education here. Taiwanese media reported that he became rich by selling military products in the Iran-Iraq War , and was known as the "King of the Middle East". In the 1980s and 1990s, he returned to Taiwan to host a number of beauty pageants and was called the "Beauty Page Emperor". In 1998, Tang Rirong died of illness, and the beauty pageant fell to a trough, and the "Miss China" gradually became a terrible sound.
Entering the new century, the ruling authorities on the island accelerated the pace of "de-Sinicization". Although various beauty pageants are emerging one after another, they are often tainted with the flavor of "Taiwan independence", which is incomparable to the previous selection of "Miss China".
