Japanese media reported that TDK, the fourth largest manufacturer in the world, is optimistic about the trend of electric vehicles to drive the demand for accumulated ceramic capacitors (MLCC) to increase sharply, and plans to spend about 50 billion yen to build a new factory in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, and double the MLCC capacity of electric vehicles and other related products. Recently, Guoji has also actively expanded MLCC production capacity and locked in high-end specifications.
Japanese media pointed out that after TDK expands production, it is estimated that the overall MLCC production capacity will be twice as high as it is now by the end of 2024. This is also the first new capacitor factory built by TDK in 16 years.
TDK believes that the number of MLCCs required for an EV reaches about 10,000, which is about twice that of fuel vehicles. With the popularity of EVs, it will drive a sharp increase in demand for MLCC; British research company LMC Automotive pointed out that the global EV sales in 2030 are estimated to be 35.44 million units, which will be 7.6 times that of 2021.
Guoju is Taiwan's largest and top three passive component stacked ceramic capacitors (MLCC) suppliers in the world. It occupies the leading global market for tantalum capacitors and resistors. Its products are widely used in laptop , game consoles, mobile phones, automotive, communications and other fields.
Guoju transformed itself from 2017 to 2018, acquiring many companies to enrich their product portfolio and provide customers with one-stop purchase services. The group's performance in standard products dropped to about 20%, and the proportion of niche products rose to 80%. Guoju is optimistic that high-end applications include automotive, industrial, commercial PCs and servers , etc. are long-term sports energy, and high-end specifications are locked on production capacity planning . Kaohsiung Dafa Factory 3 is expected to be completed by the end of the year to produce high-end MLCC. After the first phase of production capacity is released next year, the MLCC capacity will increase by 15%, and the second quarter will increase by another 10%; the expansion of Mexico will mainly focus on MLCC and tantalum capacitors.
legal person pointed out that as Guoji high-end niche products are approaching full load, the revenue proportion of automotive products is also expected to continue to increase.
Guoju's performance in automotive passive components accounted for 19% in the fourth quarter of last year, and the medium-term target maintained accounted for 22%.
