Pingtan Island, also known as Haitan Island , is the largest island in Fujian Province, the fifth largest island in China and is known as the "Qianjiao Island County". It is 128 kilometers away from Fuzhou and is only 68 nautical miles away from Hsinchu Port in Taiwan Province to the east. It is the closest place to mainland China to Taiwan.
