Comprehensive Taiwan media reports that a magnitude 6.5 earthquake occurred in Taitung County, Taiwan at 21:41 on September 17, followed by continuous aftershocks. The earthquake also caused water pipes to rupture, bridges to be misaligned, and road surfaces to be cracked in Kaohsiung, Taitung, Hualien and other places in Taiwan.
The main line of water pipes on Kaixuan Road, Fengshan, Kaohsiung has broken, the asphalt road surface cracked, and a large amount of tap water continues to gush out. In order to prevent people from entering the water-damaged area, local police and others are on the scene to guard the situation.

It is reported that since the diameter of this tap water road is 1 meter, mainly supplying water supply in Fengshan and Qianzhen, the water pipe rupture may cause a local water outage. The Kaohsiung City Government also said that it would ask residents to store water for later use.

The Baohua Bridge in Luye Township, Taitung County was severely misaligned. The Taitung County Mayor said that the bridge has been closed and the alert is under investigation.
In addition, the southern part of Hualien has a high shock. There are cracks on many roads in Yuli Town, and the telephone poles are slightly inclined, but traffic and electricity are not affected.

Yuli Town Mayor also reminded the public that aftershocks are likely to occur in the past few days. Please pay close attention to the housing conditions and immediately check whether there are any damages to gas , water and electricity pipelines and houses. The entrances and exits of the house should be kept unobstructed. If there is an aftershock, remember to "lie down, cover, and stabilize" and hide under the table or corners of the wall to protect your head and neck.

. The Fire Department also called on the public to stay alert, pay attention to the occurrence of aftershocks, and prepare for earthquake prevention. People in mountainous areas also pay special attention to the sliding of soil and rocks to ensure their own safety.
