Longshan Temple
Longshan Temple is located in Mengjia (now 0,000 Hua ). It is the early birthplace of Taipei City. It was built in the third year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1738 AD). It is collectively known as the three major temples in Taipei, together with Mengjia Qingshuiyan and Dalongdong Baoan Palace, and is a second-level historic site in Taipei City.
Most of the Taiwanese ancestors crossed the sea from Fujian, mainland China. At that time, the Taiwan Strait was described as Heishuigou , and there was a proverb called "Three in six and one dies one turn back", which means that ten people crossed the sea to Taiwan to cultivate, and an average of six people were buried in the belly of fish, three people successfully crossed Taiwan, and one person retreated because of the great storm. This shows the hardships of coming to Taiwan back then.
Early life was difficult and there were many plague diseases. Therefore, the people from Fujian Quanzhou , Jinjiang, Nan'an , and Hui'an , then jointly built Longshan Temple in Mengjia, and invited Guanyin Bodhisattva to come to Taiwan with the incense, as a spiritual settlement for fighting in a foreign land.
The main god of Longshan Temple worships Guanyin Bodhisattva, the main hall. In addition, the Huatuo Immortal Master, Wenchang Emperor and Yue Lao God worshipped in the back hall are all quite famous. Many believers will visit Longshan Temple for blessing when they are sick, take exams or beg for marriage. Whether it is a hot day or holiday, Longshan Temple is in full swing, believers come to worship and tourists who experience temple culture.
Longshan Temple is not just a spiritual palace, its craftsmanship and design are worth seeing. The first focus is to look at the Bell and Drum Tower of Longshan Temple. It is different from the independent loft of traditional temples. It is designed with a saloon roof with triple eaves above. It is the first time that the bell and drum tower architectural form appeared in Taiwan, and it has influenced the architectural style of temples in various places later. The second highlight is the only copper-cast dragon pillar in Taiwan at the entrance of the front of Sanchuan Hall. It was cast by Xiamen gardener Hong Kunfu in the 1920s and Li Luxing, a Taipei Iron Factory. The dragon body has clear lines, and the pillar body is accompanied by carvings of figures on the list of gods. At the bottom of the pillar are waves, carp and pillar beads, which shows the exquisite craftsmanship of the craftsman back then.
There are many ancient breakfast snacks around Longshan Temple, including bowl cakes, squid soup, herbal tea for cooling off, and aiyu. There are also Huaxi Street Night Market, Guangzhou Street Night Market and Xichang Street Night Market. After visiting, you can also worship the Five Insect Temples.
