Beitun Police Station, the Fifth Branch of the Taichung Municipal Police Bureau, received a report from the public on patrol at around 23:00 on May 7, saying that an old woman living alone had a heart condition, but because of dementia, she accidentally locked herself in her house and could not open the door. After the police arrived at the scene quickly, they immediately contacted the fire brigade to go to the scene for evaluation and decided to break the door to rescue the old woman. They also helped notify their family members to visit the hospital and resolve a crisis.
Beitun Police Officers Lin Zhanhong and Shi Baihao received reports from the public at the above time, saying that the neighbor was an old woman named Zhang (born in 1945). She accidentally locked herself in her home and forgot how to open the door because of dementia. Zhang's words mentioned that she was very unwell due to nervousness and was very urgent.
After the police rushed to the scene to learn about the situation from the neighbors, they immediately notified the fire brigade to break the door. After obtaining Zhang's consent, the police broke the door and rescued Zhang's wife, and the neighbors accompanied him to the Chinese Medical College for diagnosis and treatment. The police also assisted in contacting Zhang's wife's son Qu Nan (born in 1967) to visit the hospital. Qu Nan expressed his gratitude to Lin and Shi, and also thanked the 119 ambulance staff who were present to assist.
The police remind the public to pay more attention to the physical condition and daily life of elderly people living alone at home. They can install relevant equipment or contact them at a fixed time to grasp the daily physical condition of those living alone and avoid leaving regrets when leaving accidents at home.
