Beijing News (Chief Reporter Sun Haiguang) On July 19, two-time Winter Olympics champion and Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu announced his move to the professional skating field. Compared with amateur figure skating events such as the World Championships and Grand Prix, professional skating is more performative, but the income of athletes will increase significantly. After the Beijing Winter Olympics, Yuzuru Hanyu has completed 12 performances in four Japanese cities.
is contrary to football, basketball, tennis and other events. The competitive level of figure skating professional are significantly lower than that of amateur events.
In the figure skating event system, such as the World Championships, Grand Prix, and Four Continental Tournaments are all amateur events. The prize money for these competitions is not high, and figure skaters do not earn much income. After moving to the professional skating field, athletes can participate in commercial performances around the world and will also have higher incomes. The reason why
is divided into professional and amateur depends on the two international organizations of figure skating. Previously, figure skating events were mainly organized by ISU ( International Skating League ) and ISI (American Skating Association). The two organizations had different requirements for the relevant rules of figure skating.
ISU, founded in 1892, is a member of the International Sports Federation and specifically operates figure skating events such as the World Championships and Grand Prixes. ISI focuses on performance-oriented events and youth events. According to relevant ISU requirements, active athletes are not allowed to participate in ISI professional events, but there are not many requirements for related exhibition competitions.

Compared with ISU, ISI has a much smaller influence nowadays, and its events are mostly performance-oriented. Every summer, many figure skaters will switch to professional skating for a short time. Some athletes will also participate in ISI-related commercial exhibitions after retirement, but they can return to participate in ISU events at any time according to their physical condition.
Compared with before, the amateur and professional boundaries in the figure skating field are becoming less and less obvious now.
Chinese figure skating group Shen Xue /Zhao Hongbo also retired briefly in 2007 and moved to the professional skating field. At the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, Shen Xue/Zhao Hongbo made a comeback and won the double skating gold medal.
During the Beijing Winter Olympics, Yuzuru Hanyu said that "I want to pursue Yuzuru Hanyu's figure skating ." After the performance of skating at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics on February 20, Yuzuru Hanyu said that in the future, no matter whether it is a competition or a performance, it is not important to skate in any field.
After the Beijing Winter Olympics, Yuzuru Hanyu did not participate in any international competitions. On May 27, Yuzuru Hanyu participated in an exhibition match at Makuhara Gymnasium in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. This was his first public appearance on the ice rink after the Beijing Winter Olympics. From May to June, Yuzuru Hanyu participated in the ice performance Fantasy on ice as the head of the troupe (group leader), and has completed 12 performances in 4 cities so far.
