Kenyon Martin and Jeremy Lin beef.
Former NBA player Kenyon Martin recently commented on Jeremy Lin’s hair style.
Martin said on Instagram: "This is my last post today. Do I need to remind this boy that his last name is Lin? Please stop this behavior. No matter how hard you wear your dreadlocks, you are not black. "Look, I understand you want to look like a black man, but your surname is Lin."
Jeremy Lin politely replied to this status, saying: "Hey man, it doesn't matter if you don't like my hairstyle." , you have the right to send To express my own opinion, I actually appreciate you speaking your mind. Ultimately, I appreciate my dreadlocks, and I also appreciate your Chinese tattoo, because I think it’s a sign of respect. I think the more we appreciate each other's culture as a minority, the more we can influence the mainstream. Thank you for everything you have done for the Nets and basketball. I had your poster on the wall when I was a kid. "

delivered a massive L to Kenyon without being mean-spirited
In this round of confrontation, Martin lost completely, and Jeremy Lin maintained his style.

graduation is merely a social phenomenon. all you get out of it is a piece of paper. the level of wokeness that kyrie got from experimenting and contemplating at his one year at Duke cannot possibly be compared to something that regular humans go through.
A diploma is just a diploma and a social phenomenon. And Irving has been experimenting and thinking during his year at Duke. Is his level of intelligence comparable to that of ordinary humans?

He is a great guy, unlike Kenyon who acts tough with that hood mentality.
These older players really need to get a grip
Jeremy Lin is a good guy, and on the contrary, Martin will act tough, I feel like I'm a mess.
These old players should really shut up.

I wonder what will now happen with Kenyon when Lin responded to his aggression with such a thoughtful and humble text. Will he double down? Will he ponder for way too long how can he reply to something like that? Will he just... self-combust?
Just a fascinating situation.
I just want to know what Martin would do now that Jeremy Lin has written such a graceful and thoughtful response. Will he continue to spray? Or are you scratching your head and wondering how you should respond? He couldn't burn out his brain and spontaneously combust, right?
interesting.

Can’t wait to see Kenyon’s response. Grew him watching him and the early 2000 nets with Kittles, RJ, Kidd etc. Doubt I could’ve handled this with as much class as Lin.
I can't wait to see Martin's response. I grew up watching Martin, Jefferson and Kidd in the early 2000s. I don't think I could handle a similar situation with as much grace as Jeremy Lin.

It's worse than that - he has a Chinese tattoo which doesn't mean what he thinks it means. He thinks it means "never satisfied" when really it means "indecisive"
worse Yes, his Chinese tattoo didn’t mean what he wanted at all. He thought it meant never being satisfied, when in fact the idiom meant being indecisive.

I love Lin's response. He doesn't use KMart having chinese tattoos to rub it in his face. He uses it as a point to show they both respect each other's cultures. Lin has gone through racism and hate his entire basketball career even going as far back to high school. People were calling him C**** to taunt him and he played through it. I would think black athletes dealing with racism and having gone through it as well would be a little better than the response KMart had. Shows immaturity on his part.
I really like Jeremy Lin's response. He did not use the fact that Martin had a Chinese tattoo to disgust Martin. He used it as an argument to prove that both sides respect the other's culture. Jeremy Lin experienced a lot of racial discrimination and hatred all the way into high school. People called him Chinaman and insulted him, and he got through it all. I think black athletes who have experienced racial discrimination will understand Jeremy Lin better and will not be as random as Martin. Martin is really immature.

Is this something that's been going on? Who cares if he had dreads? When he mentioned the Chinese tats I got flashbacks of fifteen years ago when everyone wanted one. Lin is a bad man
Chinese tattoos have been popular for some time. Who cares whether Jeremy Lin has dreadlocks or not? When Jeremy Lin mentioned Chinese tattoos, I was reminded of 15 years ago, when everyone wanted Chinese tattoos. I am a big brother in society, I am cruel and don’t talk much.

It's that whole 'culture appropriation' bullshit. Living is too easy these days, people need to make up entire concepts to be enraged about.

Lin has dealt with more racism from a basketball perspective than anyone else in the league. It blows my mind than so many of these black players even look at him a certain way because of it.
From a basketball perspective, Jeremy Lin has received the most racial discrimination in the NBA. I just don't understand why some black players treat him differently? (Given the history of racial discrimination against black people)

This was a notable comment in the IG post. The Stephen A Smiths of the world will deny it but there is a certain level of truth there:
iamrichlamKenyon Martin reveals the kinda level of acceptance there is for an Asian American in the league among peers in NBA saying they woulda never let him on the team with a head like that. So basically even tho he's embracing black culture ... for the fact that his last name is Lin ... and he's Chinese. He is NOT welcome among a group of professional NBA players according to Kenyon. This is an ex-professional basketball player in the top organization in the world revealing this
There is a comment under Martin’s IG that makes a lot of sense. Although many black people like American Yang Yang (who always talks about his racial identity) will try to deny it, this comment is really insightful:
Martin is right Jeremy Lin's insult shows how accepting many NBA players are of Asian Americans. If he wears dreadlocks, would he not want to be a teammate with Jeremy Lin? Jeremy Lin is embracing black culture, but because his last name is Lin and he is Chinese, he is not welcomed by some professional NBA players? Martin, a former pro player, reveals the ugliness of the NBA.
Maybe thats also why he gets hit in the face more than any other player in the league and dont get flagrant fouls called for him. Security guards dont let him in the same building where he plays. Maybe other shit too like over zealous players guarding him to make sure they aint getting embarrassed by this Chinaman. Or maybe even teammates tryina herb him for starting roles and spotlight. Maybe... just another day in life for JLin in NBA.
Maybe that's why Jeremy Lin has been hit in the face more times than any NBA player, yet referees won't call him a flagrant foul. Maybe that's why security doesn't let Jeremy Lin into his own arena. Maybe that's why NBA teams let tough players guard Jeremy Lin to prevent him from being humiliated by a Chinese! Perhaps this is why teammates are jealous that the media spotlight is on Jeremy Lin, and jealous that Jeremy Lin can play in the starting lineup.Maybe, this is an ordinary day for Jeremy Lin in the NBA.
We all can't be in NBA so we live vicariously through you JLin, and thats why we follow your career... and it has revealed ALOT. I look at professional athletes and journalists differently these days. If you are Asian kid growing up minority... open your eyes too and be careful who and what you fuck with... cuz most within that might not fuck with you back
We Asians are not all NBA players, so we can only see the world through Jeremy Lin's eyes. This is why we have been paying attention to Jeremy Lin's career. It is ugly, ugly, and has been exposed too much. My view of professional athletes and journalists has changed. If you are an Asian who grew up in a minority community, be careful, proceed with caution, and choose your friends carefully! Because some people don’t want to play with you at all!
[–][DET] Richard Hamiltonmeherab 79 indicators 6 hours ago
So true, hostility between minority communities is exactly what racists want too. And by doing it you're racist too, so you lose any moral high ground you might have had
said To be honest, hostility in the minority community is exactly what the racists want to see. If you do what they think, you are also racist and have instantly lost your moral high ground.
