Regardless of the past, present, or future, the islands in the South China Sea are our country's sacred and inviolable territory. However, due to various factors of their own, the countries surrounding the South China Sea have occupied many of our islands and reefs in the last century.
With the continuous enhancement of naval power, the sovereignty of the South China Sea Islands has been effectively safeguarded, and some of the occupied islands and reefs have also been recovered. In 1974, our country had a naval battle with South Vietnam, which invaded the Xisha Islands, and successfully regained its sovereignty over the Xisha Islands.
In March 1987, the UNESCO IOC held its 14th meeting in Paris and adopted a plan called the "Global Sea Level Joint Measurement Plan", which identified 200 ocean observation points around the world, including 5 in my country. , 4 of them have been built, only the No. 74 observation station in Nansha needs to be built.
In order to ensure the safety of personnel building stations in Nansha, the Navy sent a joint formation to patrol Nansha on May 6.
In 1988, in order to intervene in the construction of the website, the Vietnamese army continued to harass the vicinity of the construction site and tried to occupy Chiguajiao. After seeing through the other party's intentions, the South China Sea Fleet took the lead in sending people to Chigua Reef in late February and planted a flag.
html On March 14, the Vietnamese army sneaked onto the island with some construction equipment, but unexpectedly they ran into our soldiers who had been waiting for a long time. More than 40 Vietnamese soldiers and more than 50 of our soldiers were locked in a tense confrontation. middle.
Due to the regulations, they cannot actively cause trouble and cannot fire first, so the soldiers tried their best to restrain themselves and did not fire first. As long as the other party invades the islands and reefs, they will immediately drive away.
Around 8 o'clock in the morning, a Vietnamese soldier planted a flag on the coral reef in front of our soldiers. One of our soldiers immediately pulled down the opponent's flag, and the Vietnamese army took aim. Comrade Yang Zhiliang had quick eyes and quick hands. He grabbed the barrel of the opponent's gun. During the confrontation, the Vietnamese army opened fire and wounded Yang Zhiliang's left arm. Our soldiers immediately fired back, and the two sides exchanged fire.
Regardless of his own injuries, Yang Zhiliang continued to fight the enemy until he fell into coma. About ten minutes after the battle, the Vietnamese transport ship No. 604 was sunk, and the No. 605 ship was also seriously damaged and later sank.
In this battle, the Vietnamese army suffered more than 300 casualties and captured 9 people. However, only one of our soldiers, Yang Zhiliang, was injured. It can be said that the victory was fruitful. After the battle, Yang Zhiliang was recorded as first-class meritorious service.
After experiencing the counterattack at Chigua Reef, the Vietnamese troops near the Nansha waters fled and did not dare to disturb the construction of the observation station. Later, our country took advantage of the situation and recovered three islands and reefs.
As for Yang Zhiliang, who was the only one injured in the battle, he was transferred to the North Sea Fleet after he recovered from his injuries, and then became an instructor. In 2017, he was promoted to rear admiral. Two years later, he was commended at a meeting to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Navy. In the same year, he was promoted to lieutenant general.
When the territory of his motherland was invaded and faced with the provocation of the enemy, he stood up and fought bravely without fear. He was well-deserved to receive these honors. We have reason to believe that in the near future, those occupied islands and reefs will be recovered one by one, because there is a powerful people's navy guarding every inch of the motherland.
