Market research agency IC Insights’ latest estimate is that thanks to the strong demand for DRAM and NAND Flash, logic ICs, and analog ICs as well as rising prices, the annual growth rate of the global semiconductor market this year has been raised for the second time, from the original estimated annual growth rate of 19 %, increased to 24% year-on-year growth, and the global semiconductor market excluding memory will grow 21% compared with last year.
Among them, analog IC has strong growth momentum this year and the average price for the whole year is expected to increase by 4%. This is the second time in 17 years since 2004 that analog IC prices have increased.
IC Insights pointed out that the analog IC market, including power management IC, declined by 8% in 2019 and showed a slight growth of 3% in 2020. However, in 2021, not only analog IC shipments will increase by 20% compared with last year, but the revenue scale will also be larger than last year. Last year's growth of 25% was mainly due to the shortage of analog IC production capacity and the average price increase of 4%. This is the first time in 17 years that analog IC prices have increased. The
report pointed out that whether it is the general or special application analog IC market, the growth rate will reach double-digit percentages in 2021. Among them, the automotive special application analog IC market has the strongest growth momentum, and shipments in 2021 will increase compared with last year. 30%, and the market size grew by 31%.
IC Insights estimates that the global logic IC market will have an average annual growth rate of 24% in 2021. Among them, the annual growth rate of the industrial application logic IC market will be as high as 47%, the annual growth rate of the automotive logic IC market will be as high as 39%, and the annual growth rate of consumer special application logic IC will be as high as 24%. The market has an annual growth rate of 38%, and the panel driver IC market will also grow by 31% compared with last year, both of which are better than the industry average growth rate.
Furthermore, IC Insights is also optimistic about the mobile application processor market. Thanks to strong shipments of 5G smartphones and a significant increase in market penetration, after a strong growth of 24% in 2020, the growth rate will increase to 34%.
In the memory market segment, IC Insights is optimistic that the DRAM market will grow by 41% this year. It is also optimistic that the supply of DRAM and the price increase trend will continue into the second half of the year. The NAND Flash market is expected to grow by 22% this year. Prices have stabilized in the second quarter, and prices are expected to rise in the second half of the year. Overall, the memory market will grow by 32% in 2021 compared with last year.
