In recent years, he has been criticizing Apple for not supporting the RCS (Rich Communication Services, rich media communication) standard, making the interoperability between iOS's iMessage and Android worse.
Lockheimer recently launched a new round of harsh criticism of iMessage, saying that iMessage dominates the "texting army", causing young Android users to feel excluded when communicating with iOS users .
Lockheimer believes that Apple's decision not to support the RCS standard is to protect the vendor lock-in effect of iMessage. RCS will modernize SMS/MMS with iMessage-like features including indicators with read receipts, higher quality photos, messaging over Wi-Fi/mobile data.
