As a dynamic random access memory (DRAM) manufacturer under Formosa Plastics Group , Nanya Technology (Nanya) has just announced that it will spend NT$300 billion (approximately US$10.09 billion) to invest in Taishan Nanlin Science Park in New Taipei City. News of building a new 12-inch wafer fab. It is worth mentioning that this investment is also the group’s largest investment in the technology field in the past ten years, aiming to compete for new business opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, servers, metaverse and other fields.
In addition to Nanya Technology, Formosa Plastics also owns the upstream silicon wafer factory Taiwan Sembcorp, the board manufacturer Nanjing Electric, and the back-end packaging and testing factory Fumaoke, which can give full play to its upstream and downstream vertical integration Advantage.
At present, Nanya Technology's share of the global memory market is about 3%, and its scale is 1/16 of the industry leader Samsung . With Han Chang dominating the market, Nanya Technology chose to focus on niche memory technology research and development.
According to the latest plan, Nanya will hold the groundbreaking ceremony of New Taipei City 12-inch new wafer fab on June 23. The goal is to start installed mass production in 2025, using the 10nm process node to produce DRAM, with a monthly production capacity of about 45,000 pieces.
