Bao Dai was the 13th monarch of Nguyen Dynasty , so his life was always accompanied by his identity as the Emperor of Vietnam. Emperor Bao Dai was born in 1913. He was made crown prince by Emperor Kai Dinh and ascended the throne as emperor on April 28, 1922. When he was crowned emperor, also on January 8, 1926, he was 13 years old.

Bao Da returned to Vietnam in 1932, and then took charge of the country for 13 years. Bao Dai's first wife was Nguyen You Thi Lan. Bao Da and Nguyen You Thi Lan met and got married at a dance. Bao Dai and Queen Nam Phuong had five children, the most famous of whom was the last crown prince Nguyen Phuc Bao Long.

In 1945, Bao Dai abdicated and came to Hanoi to serve as the top adviser to the government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam headed by Ho Chi Minh. Especially for Monique Baldo, she did not think of herself as the "Emperor's Lover", but called herself the emperor's wife , so sometimes she called herself Queen Taifang when attending famous banquets.
