The famous collector Zhang Zongxian was born in Shanghai in 1927 and has been immersed in the antique world all his life. He was one of the most successful antique dealers in Hong Kong in the 20th century and a veteran of the auction industry. As long as Zhang Zongxian appears at an auction in the Mainland, he will definitely sit in the first row, holding the No. 1 plate, and his style can be regarded as a scene in the auction. In the early 1990s, he twice donated more than 200 cultural relics to the Suzhou Museum.
Kou Qin, chairman and CEO of Guardian Investment Holdings Co., Ltd. and general manager of Guardian Art Center, said in the preface of the book that the idea of doing a biography of Mr. Zhang Zongxian came up more than ten years ago. Mr. Zhang Zongxian has been successfully collecting at home and abroad for decades. His "No. 1" auction number is not lifted out of thin air, whether it is Hong Kong Sotheby's , Hong Kong Christie's, or China Guardian, Beijing Hanhai, Shanghai Duoyunxuan, Mr. Zhang Zongxian not only teaches by words and deeds, but also offers a lot of help. And the principles of life he advocated and practiced still have practical guiding value in the collecting circle.

Chen Dongsheng, the founder of China Guardian, once recalled that he received a lot of help from Mr. Zhang when Guardian Auction was founded: "We have asked Mr. Zhang Zongxian many times about many things about the auction company and what to do. Pay attention to What things, how to arrange the auction catalog, how to collect the lots, how to set up the auction ladder, how to train the auctioneer, when and how to make the hammer fall, the auctioneer must be able to see all directions and listen to all directions, down to the smallest details. Ask for advice one by one."
This book took more than two years from planning, interviewing to writing and writing. During this period, Zhang Zongxian was interviewed many times and provided a large amount of valuable first-hand information. Guardian Library also interviewed more than a dozen friends and industry experts who have close contacts with Mr. Zhang Zongxian. In addition, institutions such as Suzhou Museum, Shanghai Museum, Sotheby's, and Christie's also provided precious picture materials for this book.
Former Sotheby's Asia Chairman Zhu Tangsheng said in an interview: "It is because of Zhang Zongxian's full assistance that Hong Kong can develop into a trading center for Chinese cultural relics and art." Lin Huatian, former Asia Chairman of Christie's, said: "Zhang Zongxian is auctioned around the world like this. There has not been another big connoisseur who has dominated the market for so many years."
This time, the Guardian Art Center teamed up with Guanfu Culture to invite the famous collector Mr. Ma Weidu to have a conversation with Mr. Zhang Zongxian. Both of them have been immersed in the collecting industry for many years, but they have experienced different eras and different living environments. The event hopes that through the publication of this book, the two collectors will sort out their respective lives and collection experiences, so that readers can have a better understanding of art.
