Nowadays, many people like to lay wooden floors at home. This is actually understandable. After all, the comfort of wooden floors is never comparable to that of ceramic tiles. Especially in the room with floor heating, I stepped on the wooden floor barefoot in winter, not only does it not cool, but it feels very comfortable.

My house also uses wooden floors and has floor heating. However, during the renovation, the workers reminded me: when encountering floor heating, the service life of wooden floors will be greatly reduced. I don’t want the wooden floor to break down early, so I need to do 4 things before and during heating.

[First item] Ensure humidity

During heating, the humidity in the room is often relatively low. An overdry environment can cause cracks in the wood floor. Even if there is no cracking, there will be a problem of brittleness - the wooden floor at this time will appear particularly fragile, and dents or cracks will appear if there is a slight bump.

This is all caused by excessive evaporation of moisture inside the wooden floor.

How can I prevent the wooden floor from becoming brittle? There are two methods:

1. Wax or apply a layer of maintenance oil for wooden flooring on the surface of the wooden floor. Wax or oil can cover the surface of the wooden floor to block the moisture inside the wooden floor. It can also seep into the interior of the wooden floor to prevent the wooden floor from becoming fragile due to lack of water.

2. By mopping the floor more and turning on humidifiers, the humidity in the room is ensured and the room is not too dry. This is not only good for the service life of wooden floors, but also more comfortable and healthier for those living in heating rooms.

[Second piece] Avoid water accumulation

During the mopping and opening the humidifier, it is easy to cause water on the surface of the wooden floor. Or places like the bathroom door are also prone to water accumulation (usually there is water in the soles of the shoes and fall on the wooden floor).

If it is another season, it doesn’t matter if there is a little water accumulation on the wooden floor. At most it's a little dirty and it'll be dry after a while. But it is not possible in winter because there are floor heating pipes under the wooden floor in winter, resulting in a very high temperature on the surface of the wooden floor.

High temperature and humidity will cause the surface of the wooden floor to turn black. This kind of black is irreversible, and there is no other way to save it except to replace the floor. To avoid water accumulation, two points should be paid attention to:

1. Try to mop the floor with a dry mop and do not leave water accumulation on the floor. Try to place the humidifier on the furniture, or use a foggy humidifier to prevent the water sprayed from remaining on the floor.

2. You can put a pair of slippers or foot pads at the door of the bathroom and other room. Don’t wear wet slippers on the wooden floor, this is to protect the wooden floor and make the room cleaner.

[Third item] Control the temperature

Everyone wants their home to be warmer, but warmth does not simply increase the heating temperature. Especially for some users who burn wall-mounted boiler by themselves, they always set a temperature above 30℃. This method is not advisable.

The temperature is too high, which will accelerate the evaporation of moisture on the surface of wooden floors. The rapidly rising temperature can also cause cracks in the wood floor and peeling off the paint. The correct way is:

1. Adjust the heating temperature appropriately to ensure that the floor surface temperature does not exceed 30℃—the set temperature of the wall-mounted furnace does not exceed 32℃. If you feel it is not warm enough, it is probably because the number of floor heating pipes is too small, and setting the high temperature alone will not help.

2. If the heating temperature is relatively high, users of collective heating can slightly close the functional valve a few days before heating. It will gradually open within the next 3 to 5 days to avoid damage caused by heating the wooden floor too quickly.

[Part 4] Cleaning up dust

From now on, we have to do this - the big cleaning should not be done at the end of the year, and this season is the most suitable big cleaning. Clean up dust on the ground, especially sanitary dead corners such as under the bed and behind the cabinet.

After heating, the ground temperature suddenly rises, and this dust will float in the air in large quantities. Not only will it be difficult to clean up at that time, it will also cause irritation to the respiratory tract. When cleaning up dust, two points should be paid attention to:

1. It is best to spray a layer of water on the ground first to turn the dust into mud. It will not be dusty when sweeping, not only dirty, but also difficult to catch.

2. During the cleaning process, it is recommended to use the special floor cleaner . The cleaning effect is better and will make the surface smoother and not easily adhere to new dust.
