Pacific House
Pacific House is a cliff-side property built in Sydney in the 1990s. Chief architect Jeremy Bull had to deal with a new series of challenges, namely poor planning and disappointing landscapes, coupled with strong winds and heavy rains, complicating the construction process and wind protection requirements, not to mention occasionally blowing furniture away from the balcony. During the renovation process, the arched openings and curved glass walls softened the building, supplemented by lush vegetation, renovated courtyards and terraces, and a new swimming pool, making the building's white exterior exuded a subtle Mediterranean atmosphere, while the interior embodies the native European aesthetic that reflects the owner's ancestors.
Based on openness and lightness, this five-bedroom residence is immersed in the beauty of handmade and sculptural elegance. In Bull's words, it constitutes "a contemporary, materially rich and expressive family residence."
Because the original concrete frame building is incompatible with the landscape and garden and is poorly planned, the focus of the renovation is to reconfigure the room layout to cater to the family lifestyle, and to redesign the building enclosure, add and expand windows and courtyard doors to readjust the interior towards the ocean or garden.
After a complete reconfiguration, the house has been re-divided into two parts. One is facing the garden area to accommodate the hustle and bustle of family life, such as the restaurant and the garden; the other is facing the sea area is conceived as a meditation paradise for adults, including the formal living room and the master bedroom.
In terms of interior design, the iconic combination of minimalist , customization and exquisiteness and handcraftsmanship of Alexander & CO. has been fully demonstrated.
The monochrome and textured white and gray palette is combined with natural materials such as wood, marble and gypsum, injecting a sculptural sense into the space. Wooden finishes, hardwood floors and austere wooden furniture convey a Scandinavian modernist feel.
And the marble counter, washbasin and threshold, as well as the arched openings convey the elegance of neoclassical , and the hand-finished stucco and stone floors add local style.
A series of modern furniture and retro lighting soften the simple interior space with round shapes, handmade finishes and plush fabrics, further reflecting Alexander & CO's talent in creating exquisite craftsmanship and relaxed spaces.
