The number one scholar in ancient times: The number one scholar is the most glorious and ostentatious among the many terms of China's imperial examination system. It was founded in the Tang Dynasty, completed in the Song Dynasty, and continued to the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, with a history of 1,300 years. The first Jinshi is called Zhuangyuan.
"Zhuang" is taken from "Touzhuang", and "Yuan" means first, ranking first. During the Tang Dynasty, it was stipulated that candidates sent to the capital by tribute from various states must submit a letter of consent from the state and their personal background and other related documents to the Ministry of Etiquette before taking the exam. This is collectively referred to as "voting", that is, registration. After passing the examination, the Ministry of Rites will submit the new Jinshi's identity materials and results to the emperor, which is called a memorial. At the top of the list is the head. At that time, there were only grades A and B, and there was no title of No. 1 Scholar. It was not until the first year of Wu Zetian Tianshou (690) that the palace examination was first implemented, and the examination of the Ministry of Rites was re-examined. Only then did the people who were ranked highest according to their scores begin to be called the champion or number one scholar. The title of No. 1 Scholar comes from the beginning. In the 1,300 years from the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, a total of 745 examinations were held, and it is well documented that a total of 653 people were admitted to the top essays.
The first number one scholar in history
The first number one scholar in Chinese history came from Sun Fuga, the first number one scholar in the imperial examination of the Tang Dynasty . Sun's family is from Qinghe, Xingtai, Hebei. After Li Yuan became emperor in Chang'an , he held the imperial examination, and Sun Fuga ranked first. Sun Fuga, who dared to speak out honestly, said to the emperor Li Yuan: "The Sui Dynasty was destroyed because the emperor did not listen to honest advice. Your Majesty must learn a lesson. No matter how talented a person is, it is impossible to think about all state affairs. Only by being good at employing people and listening to opinions humbly can the country be governed." Li Yuan felt that Sun Fuga was a loyal minister who thought about the country, so he appointed him as the censor of governance.
After Emperor Taizong Li Shimin came to the throne, in the fifth year of Zhenguan, Sun Fujia made a mistake in trying a case and was dismissed from his official position. Soon Li Shimin re-appointed him as a doctor in the Ministry of Punishment. One day, Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty was about to go hunting. At this time, Sun Fujia rushed over, grabbed the horse's reins and said, "It is very dangerous for your majesty to hunt and play in the forest. Once there is three long and two short, who will take charge of the government affairs?" Tang Taizong, who was in high spirits, seemed to have been poured cold water on his head. Then he said patiently: "I have nothing to do today, and I am not greedy for women. I just like hunting and would like to take the opportunity to go out for a walk. I also brought a dozen guards with me, what's the worry?" After that, he climbed on the saddle and mounted the horse.
Unexpectedly, Sun Fujia wrapped the horse's reins around his waist, ran in front of the horse and said, "Your Majesty, when you go out today, please step over the old minister. I am willing to die in exchange for the emperor's acceptance of honest advice." Tang Taizong was furious and said, "You don't know what is good. Someone drag him out and kill him." Several warriors immediately caught Sun Fujia in their hands. Sun Fujia said without fear: "Guan Longfeng of the Xia Dynasty was killed for speaking out and remonstrating. I would rather meet him under Jiuquan than serve you anymore." At this time, Tang Taizong smiled and said, "I just want to test your courage. You are really an honest and courageous gentleman. It is a blessing for the Tang Dynasty to have you! Okay, then I will not go out today."
The only number one prince-in-law in history
In ancient my country, people believed that "the night of flowers and candles in the bridal chamber and the time when the gold medal was named" was the greatest joyful event in life. Many literary works and dramas have exaggerated the anecdote of "the number one scholar, the choice of the prince-in-law", as if the number one scholar is the first choice for the prince-in-law. In fact, among the more than 600 number one scholars in each dynasty who had names, surnames and documented deeds, there was only one true number one prince-in-law.
In the second year of Huichang of Emperor Wuzong of the Tang Dynasty (842), Zheng Hao, a native of Xingyang, Henan Province, was the first person to become a Jinshi in Renxu Branch. This young and handsome number one scholar was favored by Tang Xuanzong, and he wanted to betroth his beloved daughter Princess Wanshou to Zheng Hao and recruit him as his consort. So Zaifu and Bai Minzhong tried their best to come forward to promote good things. Originally, Zheng Hao had been engaged for a long time. After winning the first prize, he planned to marry the daughter of the Lu family, but Bai Minzhong interfered.
Xuanzong personally married Zheng Hao to the princess, worshiped him as Prince Consort, and was promoted to Zhongshu Sheren and Minister of Rites. Although Xuanzong treated him particularly well, Zheng Hao was always unhappy. After their marriage, the two lived an unhappy life. Although he missed Lu's daughter in his heart, he couldn't express it to Xuanzong and the princess. He had no choice but to vent his anger to the matchmaker Bai Minzhong, and showed Bai Minzhong his lust whenever he had the chance. Once, Bai Minzhong complained to Xuanzong, and Xuanzong opened a big box and showed it to him and said: "Here are a box of memorials from Zheng Hao impeaching you. I know the reasons, so I suppressed them all."
The only female champion in history
After the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom established its capital in Nanjing, Hong Xuanjiao suggested that his brother Hong Xiuquan open a college to obtain scholars and establish an imperial examination system for women. In order to criticize the superiority of men to women, Hong Xuanjiao, the director of the female college, proposed the topic "Only women and villains are difficult to raise." Among the more than 300 women who took the exam, Fu Shanxiang, a talented young woman from Jinling , was the only one who was quick-thinking, quoted the past and discussed the present, listed the great achievements of heroines in the past, and effectively refuted the fallacy that "women are difficult to raise". After evaluation, Fu Shanxiang became the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and the first female number one scholar in Chinese history. She successively took charge of internal and external political documents in the palaces of Hong Xiuquan, King of Heaven, and Yang Xiuqing, King of East. She made suggestions and strategized, and became an effective female adviser to the King of Heaven and King Dong. Later he was granted the title of Shangshu of the East Palace.
After the Jintian Uprising, in view of the needs of military operations, the Taiping Army organized 130,000 to 40,000 family members who accompanied the army separately to perform logistics work, called the "Women's Battalion". After the capital was established in Tianjing, it was renamed the "Tianjing Women's Hall". Men were strictly prohibited from visiting, and couples lived together. But over time, it caused dissatisfaction. Fu Shanxiang tactfully advised the King of the East: "When the King of Heaven was in Yong'an, he promised to capture Jinling as a way to reach heaven and allow the couple to reunite. However, they are still not allowed to have a family, which is not enough to convince the public." After discussing with the King of Heaven, the King of the East accepted Fu Shanxiang's advice and canceled the women's pavilion. Xu and his wife returned home to reunite, and the young unmarried women were also ordered to get married. This not only reduced military expenditures, but also quelled complaints.
