Yao Shaoying (1920 - 1977)

Yao Shaoying was born in October 1920 in Dayao Village, Shifo Township, Tongling County. He studied since childhood, first entered Mingluntang Primary School in Tongling County, and entered Guichi Middle School in 1933. While studying in Guichi, because of his rebellious character and radical thoughts, his father took him back to his hometown and sent him to "Fuhe Mihang" on Liqiao Street to learn as an apprentice, hoping that he would do his job with peace of mind in the turbulent social background. During his apprenticeship at Mihang, young Yao Shaoying experienced the hardships and difficulties of life early on, and proposed to his father the desire to continue studying. In March 1935, he entered Wuhu Middle School to continue studying.

After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Yao Shaoying resolutely joined the army and participated in the revolution. At the end of 1938, he joined the Communist Party of China after being introduced by Zhang Weilie and Wang Xunli. In January 1939, Yao Shaoying, Zhu Nong, and Wang Xunli entered Nanling County Beach Foot to participate in the second anti-Japanese and national salvation training class held here by the third detachment of the New Fourth Army. After graduating from the training class in April 1939, Yao Shaoying first served as deputy station director of the Transportation Liaison Station of the Tongling County Committee of the Communist Party of China (the station director was concurrently served by Zhang Weilie, secretary of the county party committee); after the Wannan Incident, he served as the mayor of Liutan Township. In 1942, he was appointed as the acting mayor of Fengxin District. At the end of 1943, he was appointed as the secretary of the Fengxin District Committee of the Communist Party of China.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in September 1945, political cadres above the township level in southern Anhui were ordered to withdraw northward to our base areas in Shandong and northern Jiangsu. After the mobilization work of Comrade Yang Ming of the Wannan Prefectural Committee, Yao Shaoying was left to persist in the guerrilla war in the mountainous areas of southern Anhui. In 1946, the Tongling area was shrouded in "white terror", and the underground work of our party became extremely difficult. In the early spring of 1947, Yao Shaoying and his comrades Wang Yangzhou, Wang Benshan, Gao Binggen and other comrades, led by Comrade Sun Hecai, the traffic officer of the Tongling County Party Committee, moved to the Taishi County Party Committee residence in Longmen Township, Taiping County on a snowy night. After entering the mountains, Yao Shaoying immediately started working in Longmen, Yangxi, Xinmin, and Qiaoshan areas; soon he was sent to work in Shidi County and served as secretary of the Liudu and Qidu District Committees. In September 1948, he was appointed as a member of the Riverside Working Committee of the Communist Party of China and a special commissioner of the Working Committee until liberation. In April 1949, he was appointed as the district chief of Wufeng District, Tongling County. In September 1959, Yao Shaoying’s work notes from the war years were collected by the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution.

In July 1977, Yao Shaoying died of illness in Tongling at the age of 58.
