The Kingdom of Jin in the Spring and Autumn Period was a large country located in the area of Yicheng and Houma, Shanxi Province today, and its national power was relatively strong. On its southern border, there are two small countries, the closest one is and Yu country , and the ones beyond it are Guo (gu6) country.
At the time of Duke Xian of Jin , Jin decided to eliminate the two small countries of Yu and Guo and expand its territory. Duke Xian and his minister Xun Xi made a plan. First, they sent Gou Xi to bring famous horses and precious jade to the king of Yu. Lord Yu agreed and sent troops to help Jin attack Guo.
There was a wise doctor named Gong Zhiqi in Yu State. He felt that it was very dangerous to use the country as a channel for other countries' armies, so he went to advise Yu Jun. The king of Yu, who won the famous horse and Baoyu, didn't listen to the result at all. The Jin army and the Yu army attacked Guo together and captured Guo's Xiayang city. Guo Jun sued for peace, and the Jin army returned victoriously.
Three years later, the Jin State once again wanted to attack the Guo State, and came to borrow a way from the King of Yu. This time, Guan Zhiqi hurriedly came to persuade Yu Jun before he agreed to the Jin State. Guan Zhiqi said:
"Yu State and Guo State are close neighbors, just like the relationship between lips and teeth. Without lips, teeth will feel cold. Moreover, it cannot encourage Jin's aggressive ambitions and cannot allow other countries' armies to enter casually. Out of our country. One time is too much, how can we do it a second time?"
However, the confused Yu Jun couldn't listen to Gong Zhiqi's advice, "It doesn't matter what it is," and still agreed to Jin's request to borrow a road.
Gong Zhiqi tried his best to persuade Yu Jun, but he sighed in pain and said: "Yu State will not survive the winter and will be destroyed. Jin State no longer needs to send troops to destroy Yu."
He could only take his family and leave Yu State. As expected, in August of that year, Jin troops surrounded Shangyang City in Guo State. By December, Guo was destroyed by Jin, and Guo Jun fled to Luoyang, the capital of King Zhou.
When the Jin army returned home and passed by the State of Yu, they suddenly attacked Pinglu, the capital of Yu, captured the king of Yu, and destroyed the State of Yu.
