During the revolutionary years, Hebei produced many cadres with intellectual backgrounds, and Mi Jianshu was one of them.
Mi Jianshu was a native of Zhangcun, Gaocheng, Zhili (now Gaocheng District, Shijiazhuang City). He studied at Baoding Yude Middle School and participated in the famous "December 9th Movement." In 1936, he graduated from Peking National University of China. When the Anti-Japanese War broke out, he came to work in the Shanxi Sacrifice League and worked in organizational leadership.
Mi Jianshu
The story background of the TV series " Bright Sword" is set in the northwest of Shanxi Province, and Mi Jianshu once worked in the northwest of Shanxi. He served as the director of the Anti-League in the Eighth District of Shanxi-Sui, and served as the county magistrate in Jiaocheng County and Jingle County.
The situation in northwestern Shanxi at that time was just as what was said in the movie. It was an interlocking situation between the enemy, ourselves, and the stubborn forces. In 1942, the most difficult period of the Anti-Japanese War, he went deep into the countryside, organized cadres of militiamen, and built strongholds with towers, which inspired the fighting spirit of the soldiers and civilians during the Anti-Japanese War.
During the War of Liberation, he served as the commander-in-chief of the front branch headquarters in Jinzhong and contributed to the Taiyuan Campaign. In 1948, Mi Jianshu was transferred to the 18th Corps (Xu Xiangqian served as the commander) as director of the Democratic Movement Department of the Political Department. In 1948, he marched into the southwest with the army. In 1949, Mi Jianshu became the deputy mayor (later the mayor) of Chengdu.
Xu Xiangqian in the war years
In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Chengdu was a large city in the southwest region. Foreign experts gave their opinions on how to do urban planning well. They suggested building a square in Chengdu based on Moscow's Red Square and Beijing's Tiananmen Square , and then extending Renmin North Road, Renmin South Road , Renmin West Road and Renmin East Road around it. However, these four roads are relatively short and do not connect to any part of the plan.
Old movie on Renmin South Road, Chengdu
Mi Jianshu, a top student majoring in political economy, put forward his own suggestions. Mi Jianshu believes that Renmin South Road should be opened up and connected from north to south to become the city's main road and connected to the First Ring Road. This suggestion has been recognized by everyone.
Li Jieren, one of the deputy mayors at the time, was a famous writer with a romantic temperament. He said that the avenue in Paris is 70 meters wide, and we also built Renmin South Road that wide. Mi Jianshu nodded in approval.
Li Jieren
When they heard that the road would be built 70 meters wide, many people had different opinions. China's economic foundation was weak and it was still a backward agricultural country. There was no need to build such a wide road. Mi Jianshu, who came from an intellectual background, laughed and said, “We need to look at things from a forward-looking perspective. If you think the road is too wide today, it may feel too narrow in the future.
There is another problem to be faced in building this road, that is, Renmin Road passes through the campus of West China University (now West China Campus of Sichuan University), dividing the school into two, and the sixth teaching building is in the middle of the road. Mi Jianshu came up with a compromise plan, demolishing the teaching building and rebuilding it next to the school bell tower. The city government built a passage under Renmin Road to ensure everyone's travel safety.
Liu Chengzhao
The principal of the school, Liu Chengzhao, is a top student studying in the United States and supports this with both hands. After all resistance was overcome, construction of this magnificent avenue began in 1958. Mi Jianshu specifically chose French plane trees as the street tree. Later, this avenue underwent many extensions and route upgrades during urban construction. The urban development history of Chengdu also proves that what Mayor Mi said back then is true.
From the time he entered Sichuan with the army in 1949 until his retirement, Mi Jianshu worked in Sichuan Province for a long time. He was a witness of Chengdu's modern construction and one of the founders of Chengdu's industrial layout. Mi Jianshu's son is more famous than him. He is the famous film director Mi Jiashan .
In terms of ancestral origin, Mi Jiashan is from Hebei, but he was born in Shanxi in 1947, when the Mi family and his wife were working in Shanxi. Mi Jiashan once joined a team in Luliang, Shanxi Province, and later was admitted to the Art Department of Shanxi University and was assigned to work at Emei Film Studio .
The director of the well-known movie " Stubborn Lord " is Mi Jiashan. He and Wang Shuo are the screenwriters of this movie. The starring actors include Zhang Guoli, Ge You and other famous actors, including Mi Jiashan's ex-wife Pan Hong. Some information now labels Mi Jiashan as a Shanxi native, but also specifically states that the director's ancestral home is Gaocheng District, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province.
