On September 3, 1971, Mao Zedong's "No. 1 Special Train" arrived in Hangzhou. Later, some people compared this trip to Hangzhou to "breaking into the tiger's den". Hangzhou was the "tiger's den" of Lin Biao and his gang. Chen Liyun, who was then a political commissar of the Air Fifth Army and secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, was a die-hard follower of Lin Biao.

Chen Liyun was once a staunch revolutionary who was baptized by revolutionary thought and war. At the first rank award ceremony, he was awarded the rank of colonel at the age of 36. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he has been working in the Air Force department and has made some contributions to the development of the Air Force of the New China. However, during the "Cultural Revolution", he became Lin Biao's "thug" and persecuted innocent comrades. He was not expelled from the party until 1978.

"Ten Years Special Period", "armed fighting" incidents occurred successively in many places across the country, especially in Zhejiang Province, which became more intense. In order to calm the chaotic situation and stabilize the situation as soon as possible, Zhejiang Province established the "Military Control Council" in 1967, and Chen Liyun was sent to Zhejiang to serve as deputy director of the Military Control Council and vice governor of Zhejiang Province.

During this period, Wenzhou had a "fire burning Wuma Street" incident. In order to stabilize the situation, the Military Control Commission sent two main groups to Wenzhou, but a "bloody incident" occurred due to improper handling. However, after this incident, Chen Liyun not only continued to hold the original position, but also added the title of "first", and his status was significantly higher than that of several other "deputy directors".

In August 1970, the Second Plenary Session of the Ninth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held in Lushan, and this meeting was habitually called the "Second Lushan Conference". At the time of the meeting, Lin Biao and his gang had very frequent abnormal activities, especially at this time the conflict between Mao Zedong and Lin Biao had become public.

In addition to Lin Liguo, Zhou Yuchi and others, Chen Liyun is also a key follower of Lin Biao, because he firmly holds the "knife handle" in his hand. During the Cultural Revolution, Chen Liyun was indiscriminate and attacked many innocent cadres in a crazy manner. As long as they were not "dissidents" from the same camp, they would be "defeated" by Chen Liyun.

Mao Zedong had already noticed the conspiracy of Lin Biao and his gang, so he did not take off the special train after arriving in Hangzhou. In order to give Mao Zedong a "peace of mind", Chen Liyun took the initiative to attack Mao Zedong with the mentality of taking the initiative to "No. 1" train to visit Mao Zedong, but at this time Mao Zedong was already alert to Chen Liyun.

As early as at the "Lushan Conference", judging from Chen Liyun's speech and performance, Mao Zedong began to feel dissatisfied with him since then. After Chen Liyun met Mao Zedong, he either avoided answers to Mao Zedong's inquiries and questions, or talked about him with all his attention, which made Mao Zedong very disgusted.

In fact, at this time, Chen Liyun had no idea that Mao Zedong had already mastered an important information, that is, before the "Lushan Conference" was held, Wu Faxian, the backbone of Lin Biao and his gang, had already said "hello" to Chen Liyun in advance, but when Chen Liyun talked to Mao Zedong, he actually said that he didn't know these things before going up the mountain.

Mao Zedong was very dissatisfied with Chen Liyun's lies. He suddenly raised his tone and said sternly: "Wu Faxian is in connection with you. What's your relationship? He has been in Lushan and has been connected with several people. Among them is you, Chen Liyun. What do you want to do?" Chen Liyun was speechless in the face of Mao Zedong's questioning.

In September 1971, the "September 13 Incident" that shocked China and the world broke out. Lin Biao and his gang defected after the conspiracy was exposed, but they would die if they did evil. Although the "Lin Biao Group" was completely destroyed after this incident, the "shrimp soldiers and crab generals" who participated in the conspiracy were brought to justice.

On September 10, 1971, Mao Zedong left Hangzhou on a special train. Ten days later, Chen Liyun received a call from Wang Hongwen, asking him to come to Shanghai immediately. When Chen Liyun arrived in Shanghai, he was quarantined and investigated shortly after he arrived in Shanghai.

In 1978, Chen Liyun was expelled from the party and arrested in 1980. Since then, Chen Liyun has been detained in the "Qincheng" prison and was not pardoned until February 1981. In May of the same year, he retired according to the treatment of general cadres. It can be said that Chen Liyun is considered the "lucky man" of Lin Biao and his gang. After retirement, Chen Liyun lived in Jiashan County for a long time and died of illness in December 2004.
