In people's impression, Sha Seng is a typical honest person who works hard and never complains during the journey to obtain the scriptures. But in fact, the Sha Seng in the original work may not be honest.

Sha Seng was originally a general of the rolling curtain in the Heavenly Court. What official position is the general of the rolling curtain?

According to Sha Seng's self-report, "I am the first to protect the enemy, and I will follow the court when I enter and exit." It can be seen that his duty is to protect the personal safety of Jade Emperor , which is equivalent to the general of the Imperial Guard.

But Sha Seng is not an ordinary general of the Imperial Guard. According to his self-report, "I am honored in the South Gate of Heaven and I am the one in front of Lingxiao Palace." It can be seen that his status is very high.

Therefore, the rolling curtain general should be equivalent to the commander of the Heavenly Court Imperial Guard.

Since Sha Seng can climb to the high position of the commander of the Heavenly Court Imperial Guard, may he be an honest person? Honest people are unbearable in the officialdom. Even if there are noble people to promote, their subordinates may not be convinced.

Some people may say that Sha Seng was not honest when he was a general of roller blinds, but he had already been demoted to the earth during his visit to the scriptures. Maybe he had learned to be a human being with his tail between his legs?

As the saying goes, the country is easy to change, but its nature is difficult to change. After Sha Seng was demoted to the mortal world, he was still not an honest person. This can be seen from his attitude towards Guanyin Bodhisattva .

The eighth chapter of the original work, Guanyin Bodhisattva went to Chang'an to find the scholars, and went through , the quicksand river , and met the sand monk who was flowing. As soon as Sha Seng saw Guanyin Bodhisattva, he immediately "holds a treasure stick in his hand and catches the Bodhisattva when he walks ashore." The Hui'an traveler who is walking with him immediately stood in front and fought with Sha Seng.

Sha Seng was not showing any weakness until Hui'an practitioner told him that the opposite was Guanyin Bodhisattva, so he hurriedly apologized for his guilt and claimed that he did not know Guanyin Bodhisattva, so he offended him.

Does Sha Seng really not know Guanyin Bodhisattva? This is actually not important. What is important is that, in the image of Guanyin Bodhisattva, no matter how you look at it, he is a great god with profound cultivation. But Sha Seng still dares to disrespect her, which shows that he is bold and arrogant.

This is not the most bold and arbitrary time when Sha Seng was the one who was the most bold. Sha Seng once personally admitted that in the years since he was demoted to Liushahe, he had eaten nine people who had obtained scriptures.

Some people believe that these nine people who seek scriptures were all Tang Monk's previous lives. Not to mention whether this statement is correct or not, but it is certain that since they are seekers, they must be Tathagata's people, and Sha Monk also knows this very well.

So some people are curious, even though they know that the person who seeks scriptures is from Tathagata, why does Sha Seng dare to eat it nine times? We can see the clues from his words to Guanyin Bodhisattva.

In the eighth chapter of the original work, Guanyin Bodhisattva invited Sha Seng to join the team of seeking scriptures. Sha Seng agreed, but at the same time he was a little worried and said to Guanyin Bodhisattva: "But I am afraid that those who seek the scriptures will not get this, which is not a mistake for my future?"

Sha Seng has been demoted to the Liusha River and suffers the pain of flying swords piercing the chest every seven days. What future can we say? The future that Sha Seng refers to should be to join the team to obtain the scriptures and achieve the right result. If the person who obtains the scriptures cannot join the team to obtain the scriptures and achieve the right result, it will naturally be a missed future.

However, Guansha Seng's tone seemed to have achieved success as a result, so he thought that not being able to join the team to obtain scriptures was a misleading future.

It is not difficult to understand why Sha Seng even ate the monks who went to the scriptures nine times, because the first nine monks who went to the scriptures did not invite Sha Seng to join the Buddhist team. Sha Seng thought that this was "misleading" his future, so he naturally could not let them cross the river alive.

Guanyin Bodhisattva probably took this into consideration. Before the tenth monk Tang Seng arrived at Liusha River, he specially invited Sha Seng to join the monk's team to avoid eating Tang Seng too. What do you think?
