Deng Shichang has been a child, is diligent and studious, and has completed his primary school studies with excellent grades in his hometown. Deng Huanzhuang believes that no matter whether your son inherits his or her career in the future, he or she must learn foreign languages and then learn advanced foreign scientific knowledge. This was shocking when English was regarded as the "barbarian language".
When he brought Shichang to Shanghai, he first let him go to the church school and studied English and arithmetic according to Europeans. Shichang has a strong ability to accept new knowledge and has made great progress in his studies. In a very short period of time, he can talk to foreign teachers and read original British and American books. Teacher Yang praised him very much and liked this smart student very much.
, and Deng Shichang did not disappoint everyone's expectations. In order to save the country from danger, Deng Shichang and other classmates boarded the "Jianwei" to train ships and became a navy. Later we also knew that the Sino-Japanese War of 1895, and the Meiji Restoration of , Japan actively invaded and expanded foreign countries, and determined the "mainland policy" centered on China.
At this time, the Qing Dynasty was an empire that was back to the public through Westernization Movement. It had political corruption, people's lives were difficult, various factions in the officialdom fought openly and secretly, national defense and military strength were strong, and discipline was relaxed; the world's major capitalist countries gradually transitioned to imperialism, and Japan's aggression was supported by Western powers to a certain extent.
Deng Shichang also stood up unshirkable at this time and participated in the battle. On September 17, during the Battle of Dadonggou, the Yellow Sea, Deng Shichang commanded the "Zhiyuan" ship to fight bravely. Later, under the siege of the Japanese ship, the entire ship was injured in many places and the hull was tilted. Deng Shichang encouraged the officers and soldiers of the ship to say, "We have joined the army to defend the country, and have long put life and death out of the country. Now, there is only death!" "The Japanese ship relies on Yoshino . If the ship sinks into this ship, it is enough to take its energy and accomplish things." He resolutely drove the ship to the starboard side of the Japanese main ship "Yoshino" and decided to die with the enemy.
But unfortunately, the Japanese officers and soldiers were shocked when they saw this and concentrated artillery fire to shoot at "Zhiyuan". Unfortunately, a shell hit the torpedo tube of the "Zhiyuan" ship. The torpedo explosion occurred in the tube, causing the "Zhiyuan" ship to sink. After Deng Shichang fell into the sea, his entourage rescued him with a lifebuoy, but he refused and said, "I am determined to kill the enemy and serve the country. Now I die in the sea. It is righteous, why should I survive!" The beloved dog "Sun" he raised also swam beside him and held his arm to save him. Deng Shichang vowed to live and die with the warship . He resolutely pressed the dog's head into the water, and he sank in the waves. He died heroically with more than 250 officers and soldiers on the ship.
Some experts later found that the Zhiyuan where Deng Shichang was located could actually be fought for a while, but Deng Shichang still chose to sail the Zhiyuan to the Japanese military. In fact, the reason why Deng Shichang realized that China would have ended in failure in this battle, and the combat quality of the soldiers around him was not good at all, so Deng Shichang installed a torpedo on his ship, with the purpose of crashing into the Yoshino and using his sacrifice to exchange for heavy losses to the Japanese military.
After the unveiling, everyone felt deeply respect for the anti-Japanese hero at that time. Such a person who can ignore his life and death for the sake of the country is indeed rare, and it is also worthy of people's admiration.
