Lin Dai

Hello everyone, I am Lantai.

Today, Lantai will introduce to you a female star with the most prominent background in Hong Kong in the 1950s. How prominent is her background?

Her godfather is Li Zongren , and her father-in-law was Long Yun of the "King of Yunnan" during the Republic of China period. After the founding of New China, Long Yun was the vice chairman of the National Defense Committee and the standing member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. The vice chairman of the National Defense Committee is an administrative level 3 position; the administrative level 3 is the level of the vice premier, which is the "vice-state level" as the saying goes.

and Lin Dai's father Cheng Siyuan is not only Li Zongren's close friend, but also was elected vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People's Congress in 1993, and is also a vice-national position.

So, since Lin Dai's father-in-law and father have held deputy state-level positions in New China, how did she become the most beautiful movie star in Hong Kong in the 1950s?

Cheng Siyuan and Li Zongren

01,

Lin Dai, born in Nanning, Guangxi in 1934. Lin Dai's real name is Cheng Yueru , and he is originally from Dacheng Village, Daqiao Township, Binyang County, Guangxi. "Lin Dai" is the transliteration and stage name of her English name Linda.

Lin Dai's father was Cheng Siyuan. He can be said to be the "staffman" that Li Zongren and Bai Chongxi . In 1930, the 22-year-old Cheng Siyuan served as the secretary of Li Zongren, the commander-in-chief of the Kuomintang Fourth Army at that time.

Jiang Gui war . After the Guangxi Department suffered a crushing defeat, Li Zongren arranged for Cheng Siyuan to study in the Department of Political Science of the University of Rome, Italy; and Lin Dai was born before Cheng Siyuan studied abroad. In 1938, after Cheng Siyuan returned to China with a doctorate degree from the University of Rome, he was immediately appointed as the secretary of the office by Bai Chongxi, the then deputy chief of staff of the Kuomintang.

Cheng Siyuan's position in the "Guangdong Clan" at that time. Although Lin Dai experienced the "Anti-Japanese War" in his youth, he was also worry-free.

The only regret is that Cheng Siyuan and Lin Dai's mother Jiang Xiuhua's marriage was a typical arranged marriage during the Republic of China period. So after Cheng Siyuan returned to China, the two gradually drifted apart. Although there was no clear divorce, the two were indeed separated. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War , Cheng Siyuan arranged his daughter Lin Dai to study in the best women's middle school in Nanjing at that time.

Cheng Siyuan

It's fun to say that Cheng Siyuan's second wife Shi Hong was still Lin Dai who helped her father chase him. At that time, the young Shi Hong wanted to meet the big star Hu Die , but Hu Die was not willing to contact the outside world at that time, so Shi Hong naturally couldn't see him. However, it was very difficult for Shi Hong, and it was not difficult for Cheng Siyuan's beloved daughter Lin Dai. Her father herself was a senior official of the Kuomintang and knew many friends from high-ranking officials. Lin Dai easily met Hu Die with Shi Hong. After the incident of

, Shi Hong and Lin Dai became good friends. Later, Shi Hong broke up with her boyfriend, and Lin Dai "worked hard" to help her father beat the side drum. Originally, Shi Hong had a vague impression of the talented Cheng Siyuan, and in addition, "best friend" Lin Dai kept saying good things to her father, so she accepted Cheng Siyuan's pursuit.

Later, after Lin Dai met Hu Die, she also talked about this interesting story.

Lin Dai

02,

In July 1949, the Kuomintang was already declining, and the rivers were ascending, so Cheng Siyuan moved to Hong Kong with his family.

Cheng Siyuan was hired as a columnist of the Hong Kong Noon Newspaper, while Lin Dai started to study in high school for several months at Xiangjiang Middle School, and later transferred to Leiden Academy.

Lin Dai's path to the shadow comes from a set of photos.

In early 1950, Lin Dai took a group of photos at a photo studio in Hong Kong, one of which was enlarged and hung in a street-facing window. Lin Dai in the photo has an elegant temperament and graceful temperament. When Great Wall Film Director Yuan Yangan saw the photo, he found Lin Dai who was still in high school, asked her to audition and signed a one-year contract with her. Lin Dai just started, but she was not reused by Great Wall Film Company. She then joined Yonghua Company and entered New Asia Academy for further studies in the second half of the year. This is how she really started her film and television career.

At that time, the old and the new were alternating. Many people from all over the country came to Hong Kong for various reasons. These people did not speak Cantonese , nor did they like to watch Cantonese movies. This became an opportunity for the booming development of Mandarin movies in Hong Kong in the 1950s.

And Lin Dai is not only beautiful, but also proficient in English, Chinese and Cantonese, perfectly meeting the needs of the society at that time. In just a few years, she became a big star in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

Lin Dai won 6 awards in various film festivals.

1957, at the age of 23, she won the Best Actress Award at the 4th Asia Pacific Film Festival for successfully playing two roles with different personalities in the movie " Golden Lotus ". She became the youngest actress in the Asia Pacific Film Festival and the first Hong Kong Mandarin film to win the international "Movie Best Actress" award.

Lin Dai

Immediately afterwards, in 1958, Lin Dai starred in Huangmei tune singing film " Diao Chan ", starred in 1961, and starred in " Can't Love " in 1962, and won the "Queen" of the fifth, eighth and ninth Asia-Pacific Film Festival, and won the "Golden Dragon Award" of the fifth Asia-Pacific Film Festival and the Special Commemorative Award of the 13th Asia-Pacific Film Festival.

1958, the Department of Drama at Columbia University in the United States accepted Lin Dai as an honorary student.

" New York Times " commented on her like this: " One Lin Dai is worth twenty-five Suss Parker, eight Jenmansfee, and a large number of Marilyn Monroe. "

Lin Dai's wedding

However, compared with Lin Dai's great artistic achievements, Lin Dai's relationship is very unsatisfactory.

This is related to Lin Dai's personality.

Lin Dai has always felt insecure since she was a child because of her parents' discord. At the same time, because her father was a high-ranking official in the "Guizhou Clan", she was considered the daughter of a high-ranking official throughout her teenage years. Even when she arrived in Hong Kong, she became a household name for Hong Kong people in just two years. Along the way, her life was too smooth, which made her weak ability to withstand pressure and go to extremes.

Lin Dai's first suicide occurred at the age of 17. She had just entered the entertainment industry and just because the company decided to give her original role to another actress, she committed suicide by taking sleeping pills in anger. Fortunately, her friend sent her to the hospital for medical treatment.

This may have laid the groundwork for her later suicide.

1958, while studying at Columbia University in the United States, Lin Dai met Long Shengxun, who was studying for a doctorate at the same school and fell in love. Long Shengxun was the son of Long Yun, the "King of Yunnan" during the Republic of China.

Lin Dai later officially married Long Shengxun on February 12, 1961.

However, this is the beginning of her tragedy.

If we blame Lin Dai for Long Shengxun for all the deaths, it is unfair; but Long Shengxun’s character is undoubtedly the main reason for Lin Dai’s final suicide.

As mentioned earlier, Lin Dai is very eager to be loved because of her parents' disagreement, and she has a strong desire to control her. She does not want to repeat the mistake of her mother being abandoned by her father, so she often restricts Long Shengxun's behavior, which makes Long Shengxun, who is a gentleman, very dissatisfied, and the two often quarrel.

Lin Dai Wedding

At the same time, Lin Dai also faced fierce competition in her career at that time. Because her achievements were too brilliant, she was particularly unable to accept her failure.

Cheng Siyuan once commented on his daughter: She is smart enough, but not strong enough. He said: "The higher the status of Lin Dai in the film industry, the more isolated her ideology , and the more disconnected her psychological development is from the real society. Over the years, she has been eager to pursue wealth and maintain honor, and is so nervous that she can't breathe, which has greatly affected her family life. That is to say, her temper is too big and it is not easy to serve.”

July 16, 1964, Lin Dai was in the company because several major directors in Hong Kong such as Li Hanxiang and others did not invite her to be the heroine in several dramas, but was ridiculed by the staff in the company who had always had conflicts with her as outdated; Lin Dai wanted to show her Asian actress's demeanor outside and ignored this person.

But the staff's sarcasm did talk about Lin Dai's heart, and she did have such concerns; Lin Dai returned home with anger and saw her husband, and couldn't help but quarrel with her husband over some trivial matters.

Actually, this is normal. People will hurt their closest relatives.

But Long Shengxun is originally a young master's temper, so how can he bear this? I just had a big fight with Lin Dai.

Lin Dai didn't really want to die at that time, but his temper was getting up. He took a lot of sleeping pills like anger and put the door on the latch. Long Shengxun knocked on the door several times and saw Lin Dai not opening the door. He thought Lin Dai was still angry. The next morning he realized something was wrong. When he smashed the door, Lin Dai had already died.

Why do I say that Lin Dai didn't really want to die?

is because Lin Dai left a note for her husband after taking sleeping pills:

Shengxun, if you really want to save me, please don’t send me to a public hospital, because then all Hong Kong newspapers will be published like a joke! I can only find a private doctor, thank you!

can be seen, Lin Dai really doesn’t want to die, it’s just not She didn't expect that she would just insert the plug and kill herself.

In fact, before Lin Dai committed suicide, Premier Zhou met Lin Dai's father Cheng Siyuan in Beijing. When talking about Lin Dai, Premier Zhou also said that the development of the motherland's literary and artistic career requires more talents, and hoped that Lin Dai could return to the mainland and do his part for the development of the national film industry.

didn't expect that Mr. Cheng Siyuan would return to Xiang Hong Kong, what greeted him was the bad news of his daughter's suicide.

1 year after Lin Dai committed suicide, Cheng Siyuan and his wife accompanied Li Zongren to their motherland and settled in Beijing; he served as the president of China Peaceful Reunification Promotion Association , deputy director of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on the Motherland Reunification Committee, China Overseas Friendship Association , the first honorary president of China International Science and Technology Promotion Association , National Taiwan Research Association The fourth board president and other positions. In March 1993, Cheng Siyuan was elected as Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People's Congress.

Lin Dai's husband Long Shengxun was a "change of his heart" because of Lin Dai's death. From then on, he bid farewell to the "lights and wine" and focused on raising his and Lin Dai's children at home. Long Shengxun died in Hong Kong in 2007. Before that, as early as 1962, Long Shengxun was the first to be a "cleaning of his heart". Xun's father Long Yun has died of illness in Beijing.
