my country has a deep friendship with Pakistan . The two sides maintained good relations in the last century. In early 1970, a flood occurred in Pakistan and the people were displaced. It was very difficult and international assistance was urgently needed. Against this background, our country provided interest-free loans to Pakistan. You should know that at that time, our country was in a special period of ten years and its economic development was not good. It can be said that it was helping Pakistan in extremely difficult situations, which made this loan extremely precious.
In order to repay China's loan, Pakistani President Yehaiya Khan handed over three trident aircraft purchased from the UK to China. At that time, the Air Force Department sent a delegation mainly from Pan Jingyin to Pakistan and drove back the Trident aircraft in the name of civil aviation. After the Trident plane returned to China, it was originally planned to take out one of them for Chairman Mao as a special plane. However, Chairman Mao had already stated that he would no longer take the plane, so one of the Trident planes became Lin Biao's special plane, which was the No. 256 special plane. After the special plane of
256 became Lin Biao's special plane, the air force department equipped the aircraft with a special team, such as the chief, co-pilot, mechanic, etc. Pan Jingyin also served as the captain and the chief pilot of the aircraft, and the co-pilot was a man named Kang Tingzi. It is worth mentioning that in 1971, when the September 13 incident occurred, Kang Tingzi did not board the Trident No. 256, so he survived successfully. However, Kang Tingzi was also under review for many years later. Today we will tell his story.
Kang Tingzi was born in 1939 in Gongyi, Henan Province. She was born in a poor family. However, Kang Tingzi loved studying since childhood. She was a smart and hardworking child and was admitted to the high school in her hometown. In 1959, the year after graduating from Kang Tingzi High School, he was selected by the Air Force and became a special pilot. He entered the Air Force's Sixth Flight Academy to study flight technology.
Kang Tingzi chose to be a pilot for a reason. He was born in poverty and was unwilling to ask his parents for their future employment. Moreover, his family was also poor. He had a monthly allowance of 7 yuan, which was very attractive to Kang Tingzi. Therefore, he participated in the pilot screening without telling his parents and was successfully selected. After
entered Flight Academy , Kang Tingzi performed very well and was also the class monitor of the students. After graduation, Kang Tingzi entered the special pilot service. The special pilot is mainly responsible for the special plane pilot of the national leaders. It is full of pilots with excellent flight skills and excellent psychological qualities. It can even represent the highest flight technology of the Chinese Air Force at that time. From this aspect, we can also see that Kang Tingzi is an extremely excellent pilot.
In the early 1970s, Kang Tingzi was appointed as the co-pilot of the No. 256 special plane, assisting Pan Jingyin in flying the special plane for Lin Biao. On September 13, 1971, on the day of the September 13th incident, Pan Jingyin hurriedly drove the plane into the air. The co-pilot Kang Tingzi, the mechanic and others took off before they could board the plane. Therefore, Kang Tingzi was not on the Trident No. 256, and he also survived after the September 13th incident. After the September 13 incident, Kang Tingzi was immediately detained and under review. After that, Kang Tingzi was reviewed by the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army. He temporarily restored his freedom in 1973, but he continued to be reviewed soon after. He was not transferred until 1976 and was arranged to work at the Agricultural Machinery Repair Factory in Huailai County, Hebei Province, and became an ordinary workshop director.
What really restored Kang Tingzi's reputation was a conversation between Deng Xiaoping. At the end of 1980, Deng Xiaoping mentioned the September 13 incident when talking to American journalists and expressed his own point of view: "I think pilots are good people." After Deng Xiaoping's words, Kang Tingzi, as the co-pilot of the special plane, gradually improved his treatment, and the punishment he was burdened was also revoked. In 1984, Kang Tingzi applied to return to Beijing. In his later years, he mainly lived in Beijing and published many articles related to the September 13th incident, which had a great influence in China.
