As early as October 1, 1949, Sister Deng Yingchao, who served as Vice Chairman of the Women's Federation, saw Air Force fighter jets flying over Tiananmen Square at the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China. She expressed her hope that one day New China would be able to train female pilots. You can also fly over Tiananmen . At the suggestion of Sister Deng, in early 1951, in order to give full play to the role of Chinese women in building a socialist motherland, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Military Commission made a decision: to train the first batch of female pilots for New China.

At that time, 55 female soldiers were selected from the East China Military and Political University and the Aviation Preparatory Corps and went to Mudanjiang No. 7 Aviation School to learn flying. Among these 55 female students, after graduation, there will be 14 aircraft pilots, 6 air navigators, 5 air communicators, and 30 air mechanics. At that time, the instructors at the aviation school were mainly rebellious pilots and Japanese aviation technicians. The trainer aircraft used were relatively old American-made PT-19 and Japanese-made twin-engine Type 99 aircraft. The female students have made great efforts to overcome their psychological and physical weaknesses as soon as possible. Some of them sprinkled gasoline on handkerchiefs to adapt to the smell of gasoline as soon as possible; some strengthened physical training with gay men; Swings and spiral ladders improve body balance problems. The large number of students and the lack of training equipment is also a big problem. They use brooms and stool legs to simulate driving sticks and sit underground to practice pulling rods and rudders. They practice judging the visual speed of motion on a moving truck. They don't forget to stay in bed at night when they go to bed. Do flying practice moves.

Most of the first batch of female pilots in New China were middle school students. It only took them more than seven months to obtain their graduation certificates on November 30, 1951, completing the journey of pilot learning that usually takes 2 to 3 years. At 11:45 on March 8, 1952, the sky was clear and the streets of Beijing were empty. The first batch of female pilots of New China flew six Soviet-type dark green twin-engine transport aircraft in the capital. More than 7,000 representatives from all walks of life, 50 Under the watch of many wives of envoys from various countries in China and Chinese and foreign journalists, the aircraft took off from Beijing Xijiao Airport, flew over Tiananmen Square, and was reviewed by Chairman Mao and other central leaders. At 1:20 pm, the planes returned to the airport one after another and landed smoothly. . Chairman Mao praised them: "Small girls are not simple, they fly so high"! On March 24, Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou and other national leaders specially met in Zhongnanhai with these pilots who participated in the "March 8th" International Women's Day flight show. After graduation, the first female pilots were assigned to the transport unit of the 13th Air Force Division.
