How did Ryukyu become Okinawa?

In fact, the key point that turned Ryukyu into Okinawa was the "Peony Society" incident that took place in 1874! This event can be checked on Baidu , so I won’t repeat it. However, this is the first time the Japanese government has launched a war abroad since Meiji Restoration . It is by no means a false statement that it has aroused Japan's ambitions for foreign expansion.

The "Peony Society" incident caused the Qing Dynasty to lose its sovereignty over Ryukyu. This argument has always been popular, but there are actually problems in it for two reasons;

1. Before the "Peony Society" incident, Japan had actually already Annexed Ryukyu!

2. After the "Peony Society" incident, the Qing Dynasty did not give up its suzerainty over Ryukyu!

In early 1872, the Japanese government received a report that "Ryukyu fishermen were killed by the indigenous people of Taiwan." In fact, this situation has happened many times, and the usual way to deal with it is:

"Qing Dynasty rescues and protects according to the previous example"

"Ryukyu will show thanks afterwards"

Then...there is no more, the heavens go to the country. Too much, how can there be such a free time! No one really wants to ask for an argument.

But why do you associate with the Japanese? Because Ryukyu has been engaged in "two-sided means" since the Qing Dynasty, paying tribute to the Qing Dynasty on the one hand, and paying tribute to the Satsuma clan of Japan on the other. Pleasing to the eye, it's hard to be small between the two!

Before, Japan would just take advantage of seafood. After all, Japan can't afford the Qing Dynasty, but this time, Japan wants to make trouble. In July of the same year, the Japanese government decided to "retract the Ryukyu version" (the information about where Japan came from Ryukyu has always belonged to it), and then the officials from Kagoshima arrived in Ryukyu and asked the Ryukyu king to send people to Tokyo to celebrate the Meiji Restoration!

The King of Ryukyu can only obey and send an envoy to Tokyo, as a courtesy!

In October, Meiji Emperor canonized the King of Ryukyu as the King of Ryukyu, and then the diplomatic power of Ryukyu was transferred to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At this point, Ryukyu was legally annexed by Japan.

What is Daqing's reaction? In 1973, the Japanese Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs Shima Tanchen mentioned the matter to the Prime Minister's Office. The Minister Shangshu Mao Changxi replied:

"The two islands (Taiwan and Ryukyu) are all my territories. Why should you worry about your country?" Japan got the attitude of the Qing Dynasty, so it sent soldiers to the island (Taiwan)... and then... the Japanese soldiers fed mosquitoes.

Then, in October 1874, the Qing Dynasty signed the "Beijing Treaty" with Japan. There are three important points regarding the Ryukyu incident!

1: Japan's argument this time was originally for the sake of protecting the people's righteousness, but China does not point out that it is not.

2: In the previous home where all the refugees were killed, the Qing Dynasty gave two pensions, and all the things that were built in Japan, such as roads, houses, etc., were reserved for their own use, and the remuneration was negotiated first, and there were other arguments!

3: All official documents exchanged between the two countries on this matter will be withdrawn and cancelled forever.

As for the birthplace, the Qing Dynasty should be properly restrained, and no more murders!

Looking at these treaties together, it is clear that Japan did not take advantage of it. It showed off its muscles and forced Japan back. If there was no later , the Sino-Japanese War , would the Ryukyu be called? Okinawa, it’s actually hard to say...
