The Tragedy of Two Jin Emperors: Mu Di Ai Di and Fei Di——The encounter of the three brothers (Part 2)

2. The quite accomplished Aidi Simapi

Jin Mudi has no brothers, so the lineage is transferred from Kandi Sima Yue to his brother Chengdi _span_span_span. . At this critical moment, the empress dowager Chu Suanzi came forward and announced: "Langxie King Sima Pi is a direct descendant since the Jin family’s Zhongxing. At the beginning, because of his young age, Emperor Cheng noblely gave the throne to his younger brother; In terms of righteousness, prestige, or the destiny of the people, no one can compare with him. It should be the king of Langxie to join the Datong." This is also true. The Jin dynasty was "Zhongxing" in Jiangdong. The first generation was the Yuan emperor, and later the Ming emperor_ Span3span and Emperor Cheng succeeded to the throne with their eldest son. Emperor Cheng had no sons, and he would stand if he had no sons. This is the old rule. His eldest son, Sima Pi, is now 21 years old. Since the throne is vacant, it should be his turn anyway. Him. In this way, Sima Pi became the sixth emperor of of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. This is Jin Ai Emperor ; and his younger brother Sima Yi , he was named the King of Langxie by the King of East China Sea. It should be said that in the emperor of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Sima Pi still had a lot to do.

When Sima Pi first came to the throne, he pardoned the world; in the first month of the second year, he changed Yuanlonghe and pardoned the world. These may be the custom of the new emperor when he became the throne, but two days after the amnesty and the yuan changed, he reduced the land tax and only collected two liters of grain per mu. Originally, the imperial court collected one-tenth of the tax, about three liters per acre; now it is 15 tax one, and the burden on the people is reduced by one-third. In the summer of the drought, he also preached a decree to "get out of the light and revive (relief) sleepiness" ("Book of Jin·Ai Di Ji"), that is, to release the criminals who have committed minor crimes in prison and provide relief to the impoverished people. In winter,He also rewarded the "poor" with five hu of rice each. At the end of the year, the ministers were asked to seriously discuss the laws and decrees, with generosity, be sure to abolish the harsh and trivial parts, and also asked them to search for, discover and recommend buried talents. However, Sima Pi is not blindly being a good person. On the first day of March in the second year of Xingning (364 AD), the main branch was "Gengxu". Sima Pi carried out a general household registration survey, reorganized household registration, and checked out the people. Take the county where you currently live as your new hometown. The laws and regulations are strict and deal a heavy blow to the aristocratic families who hide their registered permanent residence. It is known as the "Gengxu System".

So, why was he posthumously named "The Emperor of Ai"? It is estimated that there are several reasons:

First, Da Sima Huanwen, who once destroyed the Han Kingdom and captured Luoyang, holds a heavy army, is powerful, and has a potential for "illegal", which puts great pressure on the court. Great, from the minister of civil and military affairs to the dignified emperor, everyone has to buy his account, and even act with his wink.

Second, less than two years after Sima Pi ascended the throne, his birth mother, the royal concubine Zhou, died of illness in her early 40s. Sima Pi was in great pain and planned to serve his mother for three years. But the minister said: According to the etiquette system, only three months of filial piety. Sima Pi wanted to serve for a full year, but the minister also said no, because since he inherited the throne as a son, he could no longer mourn his biological mother as a son. His mother should be Queen Du Lingyang. In "Dream of Red Mansions", Jia Tanchun only recognizes his aunt Mrs. Wang but does not recognize his biological mother Aunt Zhao . This is probably the same reason. Although he is the emperor, he finally had to obey the ethics and teachings, and only wears filial piety for his biological mother for three months. What's interesting is that the relevant department couldn't hold back Jin Kangdi and allowed him to extend the filial piety period for his brother; this time, the emperor couldn't hold back the relevant department, and Sima Pi had to hurriedly suspended the filial piety period for his biological mother.

Third, a year after his mother died, Sima Pi’s married wife Wang Muzhi, the former princess Langxie, and now the majestic queen, also left her husband and left. Although you are the emperor, but you have lost one of your closest relatives, how can you not be sad!

Fourth, although the king and queen did not have children,Sima Pi had a son, because the "Book of Jin·Ai Di Ji" clearly recorded: "(September of the first year of Xingning) Guihai, born as a prince, amnesty." This prince was obviously born to her concubine. However, the record of "Jin Shu · Fei Di Ji" is also very clear: "Bingshen in February of the third year of Xingning, the collapse of the emperor, no heir." From September of the first year of Xingning to February of the third year, it was less than one and a half years. . In other words, during this period, Sima Pi's son was born, and his excited father gave amnesty for the world; however, it didn't take long before he died unfortunately and finally became "heirless." As a father, how can you not be hurt, how can you not be sad!

Fifth, 21 days after the "Gengxu system" was promulgated, on March 22 of the second year of Ningxia, Sima Pi fell ill. It turns out that he loved the yellow-old technique in his life, and listened to the nonsense of the alchemist, skipping meals, only taking medicine, in order to live forever. Minister Gao Song earnestly persuaded him, Sima Pi was willing to listen. Finally, because of "too much food, he was poisoned", he was groggy, bedridden, and could no longer handle political affairs. Reluctantly, the empress dowager Chu Suanzi had to be regent again. On February 22 of the Xingning 3rd year (365 AD), Sima Pi died of bed-ridden 11 months. He was only 25 years old. Together with the 11 months he was bedridden, he remained in power for less than 4 years. Many emperors were poisoned to death by others, which is helpless; but Sima Pi killed himself by poisoning himself, which is really regrettable. "Posthumous Fa" says: Gongren said shortly and said mourning. The most important estimate of Jin'ai Emperor's "grief" is this last one.

The above five points, apart from the first point is the sorrow of the entire Eastern Jin Dynasty, the other four points belong to Sima Pi himself and his closest relatives; and his own deeds have also deepened the "sorrow" How much does it make people feel more regretful and sorrowful?
