Remarks:

1. The "Opium War" disrupted "water transport", see the previous work "Thinking about Jingkou in the Water Transport Era".

2. Angles: Angles (Angles) are Germanic people from the southern part of Denmark ( Jutland ) and adjacent areas. Together with the Saxons formed the main body of the invasion of Britain. Within two centuries after the withdrawal of the Romans from Great Britain (409), the Anglo-Saxons conquered and colonized much of the subsequent England. The Anglo rulers had a significant advantage before the 8th century, and England's nation, language, and name were all derived from the Angles.

3. The Amethyst Incident (also translated as: Yangtze River Incident) occurred in April 1949 during the River Crossing Battle of the Liberation War. The British Royal Navy Far East Fleet Amethyst warship ignored warnings and broke into the frontline area of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River , which triggered a military conflict in which the Chinese People's Liberation Army shelled British warships, also known as the Sino-British Yangtze River Artillery Battle.

The reason why the British Far East Fleet ignored the warning and sent warships into the Yangtze River waters where the two armies were heavily contested in such a tense situation was because they believed that the People's Liberation Army did not dare to fire on British warships. During the artillery battle, the ship was seriously injured and trapped on the river beach on the outskirts of Zhenjiang. Later, on the night of July 20, 1949, he mixed with the passenger ship and fled to Shanghai. However, the ship was severely damaged and was decommissioned and disintegrated in 1957.

In the "Amethyst Incident", the People's Liberation Army of China dealt a heavy blow to the arrogant and defiant British Empire with fierce artillery fire. For thousands of years, the era of foreign warships operating unscrupulously in China's inland rivers was over, and the era of China allowing itself to be bullied by foreign countries was also over.

Chairman Mao once commented: "The British sent the warship 'Amethyst' to Nanjing to pick up the troops, but we shot it. Later it was said to have run away, but in fact we let it go."

4. Interpret historical allusions positively to help China's road to rejuvenation.

I hope that the United Kingdom and the United States will not forget the historical experience and lessons of their interactions with China and make more positive contributions to the development of healthy and friendly Sino-British and Sino-US relations.
